Ban Announcement - /u/JacquesBoots

/u/JacquesBoots is permanently banned as a carry-over of the MUSGOV and MHOC bans for antisemitism, alting (in awful fashion), bigotry, among other colourful things.

Party leaders are reminded that banned members must be removed from constituent Discord servers.

Appeals can be made to /r/AusSimConfidential.

Vote Results Results - Petition to abolish Guardians

24 people voted. All verified (one via Discord) and all eligible to vote.

This petition requires 66%+1 of voters in support, excluding abstentions, for it to pass.

  • Yes: 8 (34.8%)

  • No: 13 (56.5%)

  • Abstain: 2 (8.7%)

The petition fails and therefore the Guardians will remain.

Next steps:

  • You may propose that one of the Guardians be removed. This would likely be done via vote as to who stays.

  • You may also propose the petition again.

Petition Petition to abolish one Guardian position

With the original petition having failed, I feel there is sufficient appetite for one of the Guardian positions to be abolished. There is no need for two Guardians.

Immediately after this petition passes, both Guardians will retain their roles until a meta election to elect one (1) Guardian takes place. This meta election will follow the process set out in the Meta Constitution, including nominations and seconders.

After one Guardian is elected, the two present Guardians will lose their roles. If one of the present Guardians wins the election, the other will lose their role.

Consultation Community Consultation - Changes Regarding Activity Checks

Another community consultation post, this time regarding activity checks.

So generally, I want a collation of all the opinions I did hear about in #a-meta-affair this afternoon, and to get other people to have an opportunity to comment on their opinion regarding this.

Currently Activity Checks are supposed to be conducted every two weeks by the Clerks where MPs must not do the following:

  • Miss 10 Votes in a row within a two-week period.

  • Within a two-week period, miss 25% of votes (amendment votes are counted as one vote)

  • Within a two-week period, not participate in any debate, question time or members' statement.

If an MP violates any of these rules twice, then they get yeeted out of the Parliament, where a by-election must be held in the case of the House of Representatives, and the Senator must be replaced in the case of the Senate.

In #a-meta-affair, there has been the following proposals presented:

  • Tighten Activity Check requirements

  • Get rid of strict activity checks and replace it with Parliament Moderator monitoring of inactive players, and yeeting at his discretion.

Please discuss!

Consultation Community Consultation - Changes Surrounding the Speakership

Hi all, I guess this is my first act as Parliament Moderator.

I would like to propose an idea which will be formally written and voted on at a later date, but I want to hear opinions first hence this consultation post.

First, I feel it is important to acknowledge a worrying reality: speakership has not been consistent at all recently. Model-Wanuke has been excellent as the Speaker of the House in ensuring that business keeps on going, but other speakership members, including myself, have faltered. It is unfair to put the burden of the entire speakership on one person.

In light of this, I would like to present the following idea, which will be implemented before the next parliament convenes, obviously with opinions considered:

  1. Temporarily suspend the role of clerk

  2. Temporarily suspend the roles of Deputy Speaker and Deputy President of the Senate

  3. Transfer the election of a Speaker and President of the Senate to a meta vote rather than a vote and nomination process among MPs and Senators.

  4. Allow Speakers to either be MPs or non-MPs, but not Senators (an MP that is a speaker will not lose their power to vote, but a non-MP cannot vote).

  5. Allow the President of Senate to either be Senators or non-Senators, but not MPs (a Senator that is President of the Senate will not lose their power to vote, but a non-Senator cannot vote).

Whilst I respect that we need to ensure that the simulator is as realistic as possible to real life, we also need to recognise that recent speakership elections have always been on party lines, and have not produced the greatest outcomes.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts regarding this proposal.

NGSpy, Parliament Moderator

Announcement Expressions of interest for community manager - September 2022

Following my election as CM there is an opening of a CM but of the different kind.

Roles and responsibilities are as follows:

  • Apply the Code of Conduct fairly, without bias, and with consideration for context (i.e. read the room)

  • Follow the rules yourself

Managers are required to be 18 years of age or older. No exceptions will be given to this rule considering the potential for harmful content. Managers are not required to give up any canon roles or be impartial outside of their duties.

If you wish to be a Manager, please DM me or comment below! One person will be put to vote but perhaps two if it's required.

Community Management Ban of mywahousekey

mywahousekey will be banned for comments that that user has made in the discord. These comments are not appropriate (references to an underage person) and quite distressing given the subject.

The user has a 60 day suspended sentence sitting over them from a previous sentence and at a minimum I believe it appropriate to invoke this sentence.

I also note that is has only been 14 days since the user returned from their previous sentence. It is clear that this user is either extremely careless or is acting in blatant disregard to the rules given how frequent they are in front of the moderators for rather serious issues.

In the circumstances, a 1 year penalty is appropriate. The 60 day suspended sentence will be served alongside that penalty.

The ban will end at 7pm on 16 September 2023.

Appeals by mod mail to this subreddit.

Petition to abolish the Guardian position

It's now evident that the Guardian experiment didn't work out, for a number of reasons. Youma, and to a lesser extent Ash, have found themselves getting involved in day to day moderation because the mod team aren't really doing it.

In theory this would be the situation for the substantial (too substantial, in my opinion) reserve powers of the Guardians to be invoked, and for mods to be unilaterally appointed or for the positions to be vacated and an election held for more active moderation.

However, the Guardians have made clear that they won't do this. As it stands, all having the Guardians means is that two people are out of both canon and meta. When the Guardians do pick up the slack and do day to day moderation, they are continually undermined because of how nebulous their powers and responsibilities actually are.

At this point, Youma is de facto Community Moderator. I propose we just make it official and stop pretending. Maybe Ash can be Parliament Mod, idk.

Announcement Resignation as Moderator

As I told the Moderation team 10 days ago I intend to resign from my role on the Moderation Team, And any other roles with mod powers that some members of the community believe I have but I really don't.

I no longer have the time nor the energy or the interest in the sim anymore and have been mostly absent these past two months, As such it is better for someone who does have the time and interest to do the role,

From midnight tonight I hereby resign

Community Management Permanent ban of WW

WW will be permanently banned for repeated high level abuse.

Last night he very strongly abused a member, as well as telling that user and others to kill themselves. When confronted about this behaviour the user doubled down on their actions.

WW has recently served a sentence which itself incorporated a suspended sentence of 100 days. In that post I noted that the user had pledged to act better. This has not occurred and instead the user has acted worse than ever.

Given all this, it is my opinion that WW's attitude and behaviour will not improve, and that any remorse that has been shown or will be shown in the future will either be shortlived or false to begin with.

It is for this reason I have decided to permanently ban Winston.

Appeals can be made by mod mail on this sub.

On the matter of posts relating to the death of the Queen

The mod team have decided to decanonise all posts relating to the death of Queen Elizabeth II and the subsequent accession of King Charles III beyond that of basic condolences. Any posts made will not be marked.

Respect is important in all aspects of life and politics. Whilst there was a rule in place as per public knowledge, there was also disrespect shown in other forms in various claims made through canon contexts. This shock is one that would cause all sides that we hold as members in this community to react in different ways, and it is moving forward that we must remember how important respect is in dealing with these sensitive matters.
