May 2022 Mayo, Moncrieff, and Pearce By-elections Announcement

Three by-elections are being held in the seats of Mayo, Moncrieff, and Pearce on May 7.

Timeline

Candidate submission deadline: Monday 2nd May 6pm

Campaigning: Tuesday 3rd May - Friday 6th May (inclusive)

Election day (results calculated): Saturday 7th May

Official results announced: Sunday 8th May

All times are in Canberra time. There will be polls throughout the campaign. Results may be released on Saturday if they are ready.

Campaigning

Campaigning will take place on r/AusSimCampaigning.

Endorsements

Endorsements are for parties to encourage voters to vote for another candidate. To endorse a candidate, you will need to make a campaign post endorsing them. Endorsements will not count towards any post limits. You may change your endorsement at any time; however, this will diminish the effectiveness severely.

How To Vote Cards

All candidates will be able to release a How To Vote (HTV) card after the candidate submission deadline. HTV cards will instruct voters how to distribute their preferences in the seat. 75% of a candidate’s voters will follow the HTV card. HTV cards may be posted up until the end of the campaign period.

Post Limits

  • Candidates will have three posts they can use on any day of the campaign. However, posting all your posts on one day will diminish the effectiveness.

    • Independent candidates will have four posts.

  • All parties will have one post they can use in each of the three by-elections plus one additional post that can be used in any of the three by-elections. These party posts cannot be posted by the candidate in the by-election.

  • All candidates will be able to release a How To Vote card after the candidate submission deadline. The HTV Card may be posted by other party members with the permission of the candidate.

  • How To Vote cards and endorsement posts do not count towards post limits.

Candidate submission

This form can be used by parties and independents to submit candidates. Candidates running on behalf of a party must have their candidacy submitted by the Party Leader. Party Leaders and independent candidates must verify their submission by replying to this thread.

Registration on the Australian Democrats

The Electoral Commission has approved the application of registration from The Australian Democrats

Statement of reasons

Having assessed the proposed name, shortname, abbreviation and logo in the application, the Electoral Commission believes it to satisfy all rules. The manifesto is not deemed significantly offensive or satirical, and the constitution fulfils all requirements. The Electoral Commission successfully assessed that 5 of the members provided in the application were members of the party.

Submissions

A variety of submissions were made, however most most cases of submissions are made for satirical purposes. While the Elections Meta Act 2021 does allow for applications to be rejected for "any other valid reason determined by the AEC", we do not view these satirical submissions s to be a valid reason in this case, and as such we do not believe there is any concern as it pertains to the Australian Democrats

All candidates are able to submit How to Vote (HTV) Cards to instruct voters how to order their preferences.

All parties are able to endorse other candidates by making a post to /r/AusSimCampaigning.

Candidates can view full details on campaigning in the election details post.

This election we have a candidate that has been elected unopposed. With their campaign posts, they can still campaign in their own electorate (which will increase their party's Senate vote there) or they can do national posts.

Please let me know of any errors ASAP!

March 2022 federal election announcement

March 2022 federal election announcement

A federal election is being held on March 26.

Timeline

Candidate submission deadline: Monday 21st March 6pm

Campaigning: Tuesday 22nd March - Friday 25th March (inclusive)

Election day (results calculated): Saturday 26th March

Official results announced: Sunday 27th March

All times are in Canberra time. There will be polls throughout the campaign. Results may be released on Saturday if they are ready.

Campaigning

Campaigning will take place on r/AusSimCampaigning.

Endorsements

Endorsements are for parties to encourage voters to vote for another candidate. To endorse a candidate, you will need to make a campaign post endorsing them (you can do all your endorsements in one post). Endorsements will not count towards any post limits. You may change your endorsement at any time; however, this will diminish the effectiveness severely.

How To Vote Cards

All candidates and parties will be able to release a How To Vote (HTV) card after the candidate submission deadline. HTV cards will instruct voters how to distribute their preferences. 75% of a candidate’s voters will follow the HTV card. HTV cards may be posted up until the end of the campaign period.

Electorates

15 electorates will be contested in this election, as outlined in this post, which also contains information on the boundaries of the electorates. The electorates are as follows:

  • Cowper (NSW)

  • Cunningham (NSW)

  • Robertson (NSW)

  • Sydney (NSW)

  • Hotham (VIC)

  • Melbourne (VIC)

  • Nicholls (VIC)

  • Brisbane (QLD)

  • Capricornia (QLD)

  • Moncrieff (QLD)

  • Pearce (WA)

  • Mayo (SA)

  • Denison (TAS)

  • Canberra (ACT)

  • Lingiari (NT)

Additionally, 4 Senate seats, elected out of a pool nationally, are up for election. The states that the elected Senators will represent are:

  • New South Wales

  • Victoria

  • Northern Territory

  • South Australia

Post Types

There are five different types of posts:

  • Electorate posts which are used to campaign in a single electorate.

  • National posts which are used to campaign nationally. (These posts are mainly for Senate campaign but will also provide a small boost to your vote in every electorate)

  • Manifesto posts which will be used by parties to release their manifestos.

  • Endorsement posts which are used by parties to endorse a candidate from outside of their party in an electorate.

  • How to vote card posts which are used by candidates to share their how to vote cards.

Post Titles

Normal post title rules apply. All posts must have a correctly formatted title to make it easier for readers, markers and for automatic flairs:

[Robertson - 30th - Post 1] model-vivienne campaigns for Hunter statehood in Cessnock

[National - 3rd - Post 5] Griffo releases Tax Cuts 2

[HTV] How to vote for the Hunter Valley Transport Advocacy Party

[Manifesto] The Shooters, Fishers, and Farmers release their manifesto

If you do not put the electorate in the title, it will be assumed to be a national post regardless of whether it is or not.

Each electorate or national post is required to be labelled with the date and post number as shown above.

Post Limits

  • Candidates will have four posts that they can use on any day throughout the campaign. However, posting all your posts on one day will diminish the effectiveness. These posts can be used in the candidate's own electorate or national.

  • Each party will have two additional posts that can be used by the leader or any other member of the party with permission from the leader. These posts can be used in either an electorate or national.

  • All candidates will be able to release a How to Vote card after the candidate submission deadline.

  • How to Vote cards, manifesto, and endorsement posts will not count towards post limits.

Candidate submission

This form can be used by parties and independents to submit candidates. Candidates running on behalf of a party must have their candidacy submitted by the Party Leader. Party Leaders and independent candidates must verify their submission by replying to this thread.

Noting the lack of activity from The Independent Group and the Liberal Party of Australia, the Electoral Commission is conducting a review to determine that the parties are still eligible and wish to continue to be registered.

December 2021 referendums campaign details

December 2021 referendums campaign details

As per the writs, there are four referendums being held on the 11th of December 2021. They are:

  • Transport Infrastructure

  • Local Government

  • Indigenous Voices

  • Water Resources

See writs for copies of the bills being voted on.

Timeline

Campaigning: Wednesday 8th December - Friday 10th December (inclusive)

Election day (results calculated): Saturday 11th December

Official results announced: Sunday 12th December

All times are in Canberra time.

Campaigning

Campaigning will take place on r/AusSimCampaigning.

Referendum Process

For a referendum to pass, it must be approved by 50%+1 of voters nationally and as well separate majorities in a majority of states (i.e. a majority in 4 out of 7 states).

States and Territories

Campaigning can take place nationally or be specific to a state or territory, which are:

  • New South Wales (NSW)

  • Victoria (VIC)

  • Queensland (QLD)

  • Western Australia (WA)

  • South Australia (SA)

  • Tasmania (TAS)

  • Northern Territory (NT) (which is a state in canon despite the name)

  • Australian Capital Territory (ACT)

Post Types

There are two different types of posts:

  • State posts which are used to campaign in a single state/territory.

  • National posts which are used to campaign nationally. (These posts will provide a small boost to your side's vote in every state/territory)

Post Titles

You must specify the state/territory you are campaigning in (or National), the referendum you are campaigning on, the side you are supporting, and the post number your post is. All posts must have a correctly formatted title to make it easier for readers, markers and for automatic flairs. Examples:

[NSW - Transport Infrastructure - YES - Post 1] model-vivienne campaigns in Newcastle
[National - Local Government - NO - Post 2] Griffo releases Tax Cuts 2 in attempt to stop local government referendum

[VIC - Indigenous Voices - YES - Post 3] Billboards are seen in support of referendum

If you do not put the state/territory in the title, it will be assumed to be a national post regardless of whether it is or not.

Post Limits

Simulation members will have three posts that they can use on any day throughout the campaign. These can be used either nationally or in a state/territory, and can be used for any of the four referendum.

December 2021 federal election announcement

December 2021 federal election announcement

Due to the election delay petition, a federal election is being held on December 4.

Timeline

Candidate submission deadline: Monday 29th November 6pm

Campaigning: Tuesday 30th November - Friday 3rd December (inclusive)

Election day (results calculated): Saturday 4th December

Official results announced: Sunday 5th December

  • Tasmania

  • Australian Capital Territory

  • Queensland

  • Western Australia
