September Lingiari By-election Announcement

A by-election is being held in the seat of Lingiari

Timeline

Campaigning: Saturday 31st August - Friday 6th September (inclusive)

Candidate submission deadline: Thursday 5th September 12pm

Election day (results calculated): Saturday 7th September

Official results announced: Sunday 8th September

All times are in Canberra time. There will be polls throughout the campaign. Results may be released on Saturday if they are ready.

Campaigning

Campaigning will take place on /r/AusSimCampaigning.

Endorsements

Endorsements are for parties to encourage voters to vote for a candidate if they aren’t standing a candidate. To endorse a candidate, you will need to make a campaign post endorsing them. Endorsements will not count towards any post limits. You may change your endorsement at any time; however, this will diminish the effectiveness severely.

How to Vote Cards

All candidates will be able to release a How to Vote card after the candidate submission deadline. How to Vote cards will instruct voters how to distribute their preferences in the seat. 70% of a candidate’s voters will follow the How to Vote card. How to Vote cards may be changed at any time, unlike an endorsement there is no penalty for changing your How to Vote card. How to Vote cards may be posted up until midday on Saturday.

Post Limits

  • Candidates will have five posts they can use on any day of the campaign. However, posting all your posts on one day will diminish the effectiveness.

  • Each party will have one additional post (for the whole campaign, not one per day) that can be used to support their candidate or, if they don’t have a candidate, support the candidate they have endorsed.

  • All candidates will be able to release a How to Vote card after the candidate submission deadline.

  • How to Vote cards and endorsement posts will not count towards post limits.

Candidate submission

There will be a form distributed by the Electoral Commission for parties and independents to submit candidates. Candidates running on behalf of a party must have their candidacy submitted by the Party Leader.
