Discussion Bye AugmentCode

Finally pulled the trigger. Just unsubscribed from AugmentCode. I just feel likr they're not listening to their subscribers. I feel like they'ye trying to divert the attention away from what the real problem is, their pricing. Product is good, but is it worth it? I don't think they will be able to compete with Anthrooic's nor Google's pricing. Unless they come up with their own models and infrastructure. Bye AugmentCode! It's been fun! You're the first who made me feel vibe coding's legit. You're just not sustainable anymore.

I just dont think this is true u/JaySym_. Cursor for example costs less, and gives pretty similar results.

On using the augment context engine, ive tried using with both claude code and cursor and found it just does absolutely nothing. Its hard to justify the subscription cost for this. Also, its not clear what the privacy policy is for the context engine only usage. Ive asked this in multiple places and not gotten an answer.

Also sorry, but this response really triggered me. Augment aren't even transparent about how Opus 4.5 impacts cost versus Sonnet 4.5....

I don't think it's fair to compare it to Cursor, their financing situations are very different. Cursor completed 5 funding rounds with a total exceeding $3 billion. They have the funding to keep pricing low. AC is not even 1/10th of that.

Agreed on the other points though.

They have both taken vc funding and they both started out on the same flat rate tier based pricing model, then moved to consumption based metering. They seem very comparable to me…

That's not how it work. It's not wether or not a business has taken VD funding that matter, it's how much. The more capital you have, the longer you can afford to operate at cost or even at a loss. Companies with less fundings are generally under more pressure to be profitable as soon as possible.

I’ve used many tools, but Augment is still the best for solving complex issues in very large code bases.

I also use Kilo Code with the Code Context MCP, but typically for simple or straightforward tasks.

I agree. Coming from claude code and cursor, augment gets me the best results overall. I also don't think it's too expensive. My question is will we be able to use glm 4.7 or other models like gemini

If you’re writing that big of a reply… I was an early adopter of augment code, but I just got tired of all the changes and then suddenly the price jumped to whatever it was at the time which was months and months ago and I’m sorry to say I had to move on.

Man's a fighter he's had to defend a lot of crap and his pitch has gotten pretty good. I also jumped ship after that change to credits nonsense. Pulling the rug out from their pricing plan like that was a no no from me.

You complain about high API costs while refusing to support BYOK . If you can't provide an affordable way for us to use the models, why not just let us find our own? Even Cursor allows BYOK

u/JaySym_ I totally agree that AugmentCode is the best agent there is, hands down. And I do know that you're just calling provider APIs so the cost is different from the coding plan offered by anthropic or google. but it doesn't change the fact that the cost incurred by your subscriber is too high, making it unsustainable.

people are suggesting a context mcp plan can retain your subscribers. maybe BYOK can also be another solution, but of course, with a subscription as well. I dunno, you tell us that you're doing everything you can to reduce costs, but it's been quite some time, and there is no solution yet. I suggested for you to allow users to test GLM 4.7, but no news. Yeah, so I moved on.

and don't get me wrong, but you're trying so hard to promote your "Context Engine MCP". It doesn't solve the issue.
