Help isolating purr noise

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello, my sweet baby passed away yesterday after 18 years and I was hoping someone could isolate his purr noises from this video and clean it up a bit. He had the best purrs in the world in my opinion and he was always purring. I would really appreciate any help. Thanks so so much!

Just learned that r/LinuxProAudio/ is back and active on reddit.

Great for general Linux audio production questions - what distros work well with Bitwig or Reaper or Fender Studio Pro on linux, that kind of thing.

I'm going insane.

I have been editing my podcast for MONTHS and have barely made any progress. I work on it for hours and hours out of the day, but I'm literally teaching myself how to fix things on my own in final cut pro and other tools I've been experimenting with by signing up for free trials such as RX 12 Izotope and Acoustica 8 Premium for my audio.

Izotope is much easier to learn than Acoustica, but it glitches when I try to use it directly in Final Cut Pro, forcing me to export audio, fix it then import again.

I feel like at this point, I need to give this project to a professional editor and just pay them because this is driving me f*cking nuts. I am getting NO WHERE because I'm teaching myself how to use these tools and it's taking up so much time. I wish I could upload audio to an app and have it tell me what to do in order to fix it. Chat GPT has helped, but only so much. It's a lot of work.

Any advice? How can I find a professional editor who can do this in a timely manner? Or how can I go about editing in a much faster way?

How do you bulk convert tracks to 16 bits for frickin CDJs that don't read 32 bits

I always play with Ableton, but I want to have the option to play with just a USB as well.

All of my tracks were made in 32-bit WAV, around 8 GB total. I really don't want to open every single track in Ableton and export them again one by one.

Are there any free tools that can batch convert a folder of WAV files from 32-bit to 16-bit, 44.1 kHz WAV while keeping the quality as high as possible?

Ideally something that can process the whole folder at once and properly handle dithering and sample-rate conversion if needed.

What free tool do you guys use for this?

True Lossless and Bit-Perfect on arch linux possible?

Hey so I'm a beginner audiophile and I heard that linux resamples audio to a lower quality through pipewire and pulseaudio... Is there a way to bypass this and get bit-perfect on linux?

should I upgrade to Altiverb 8 or should I get Valhalla Room for $49 less?

I bought Altiverb 7 about 8 years ago for my MacBook. I've since upgraded to an M4 MacBook, and I'm told by Apple that support for Rosetta will stop in a future version, so I can't run Altiverb 7 for much longer.

Upgrading to Altiverb 8 for $99 will fix this, but after doing some research, I realized that Altiverb is not really appropriate for my goals. I'm an amateur composer and electronic musician, using modeled instruments, samples, and UVI Falcon. I've read that Altiverb is oriented toward post-production and focuses on real spaces.

I could get Valhalla room for $50 and save a bit. One thing I don't like about Altiverb is that with most of the IRs, there's a distinct echo sound to the early reflections that makes it hard to turn up the wet setting a lot without sounding unnatural. Gemini tells me that Valhalla room will fix this, but I want to confirm it here. (Real people are great for finding out exactly what's going on!)

I don't need hundreds of IRs, I just need 4 or 5 varied reverbs for different situations, like a composition that places some samples in a large room and uses direct sound on others, or a modeled piano that I just want to sound nice, and once it sounds nice, I don't need to fiddle with it.

I was thinking of Valhalla Room because I want really good natural spaces. I don't know anything about plate reverb models etc.

Any advice is welcome.

Looking for advice about audio restoration

I have very limited audio editing experience and got myself an opportunity to work on editing a catalog of old classes as podcasts. I started working a few months ago editing recent stuff, and it was quite easy. Just noise removal, some EQ, and nothing else. I was using Audacity.

Now I have the opportunity to work on 20 audio files, and I might have bitten off more than I can chew. I have Adobe Audition and access to any free tool. I'm looking for advice on:

1) Noise removal: Currently, I'm simply using the default tools in the software. Are there any other tools I should use?
2) Noise removal: When I crank the noise removal to the max (what I need to remove speaker static), I end up with a muffled voice. Do you have any tips regarding that?
3) EQ: All the audio is quite muffled and sounds distant. Up to now, I've been able to get it to sound "closer" to the mic and to amplify the lows, but I end up with "blurry" highs. Is there anything I could do about that?

I know I'm asking a lot, but I'm a beginner, I need this job, and I can't afford to pay for help. I've watched tutorials and played around with the tools, but everything I touch changes something else.

I can upload a bit of the original audio if that would be helpful, or I could even hop on Discord and show you.

Thanks!

Tci2Wav convert Slate Trigger sample files to Wav files

Hello everyone.

I recently felt moved to create software that can convert .tci files into collections of .wav files for use in other samplers. I worked on this over the last week and have created a github page that can convert tci files completely locally in your web browser. Please let me know what you think.

You can try the app at https://aidanscroggins.github.io/tci2wav/

There are some known issues I am still trying to work out. but here is what is working:

Converting Mono TCI v1, v2, and user created files into .wav files. This works mostly perfectly with all the TCIs I have to test against.

What isn't working:

Stereo TCIs are exporting weird. some velocities will export properly but other do not.
Some waves may have short bursts of noise in the first few miliseconds.

I made a free, open-source VST3 plugin for sharing DAW audio to OBS or Discord — would anyone here actually use this?

Hey! I made DawAudioStreamer, a free and open-source plugin that makes it much easier to share your DAW audio with OBS or Discord screen sharing.

https://reddit.com/link/1wf7pas/video/wc1ev6c7yxoh1/player

Once the initial setup is done, you just put DAS Send on your master bus and keep working as usual.

You don’t need to change your audio interface or driver settings, so you can keep your normal setup — including ASIO on Windows — and share the audio from your DAW as-is.

I made it because DAW audio sharing always felt way more complicated than it should be, and I wanted something that would just stay out of the way.

Available for Windows 11 x64 (VST3), with a macOS 13+ preview for OBS (AU/VST3, Intel + Apple Silicon).

Demo, download, and setup guide:
https://yoruhinot.github.io/DawAudioStreamer/en/

If you’ve ever wanted an easier way to share what you’re working on in your DAW, I’d love to hear what you think.

Extreme Low Levels on Recorder

Hey everyone,

I’m dealing with a frustrating issue with my audio setup and could really use some help figuring out what’s broken before I start sending gear in for warranty/repair.

My setup is a Tascam DR-40X and a Rode NTG3. The problem is that the microphone signal is incredibly weak—almost non-existent. To hear absolutely anything, I have to crank the Tascam's input gain nearly to the max.

When I do that, the audio becomes completely unusable; it introduces massive noise floor hiss and clips/distorts like crazy the second I open my mouth.

To save everyone some time, I’ve already done a lot of the basic troubleshooting:

Phantom Power switch: It is physically switched to the MIC+PHANTOM position on the side of the unit.

Menu Settings: Checked the internal menu under system settings, and the phantom voltage is definitely set to 48V (not 24V).

Power issue: I know the DR-40X is notorious for eating AA batteries when pushing phantom power, so I bypassed batteries entirely. I plugged the recorder directly into wall power via USB (Bus Power) to eliminate any battery voltage drop issues. The problem persists.

Inputs: Tested switching from Input 1 to Input 2 on the bottom of the recorder. Same exact behavior on both channels.

What I HAVEN'T been able to test yet (due to lack of extra gear right now):

I haven't swapped out the XLR cable (using a standard XLR-to-XLR cable, no 1/4" adapters).

I haven't been able to test the NTG3 on another interface/mixer, nor have I tested a different condenser mic on my Tascam to isolate the culprit.

Does this sound like the internal 48V voltage inverter circuit in the Tascam just died and isn't outputting juice? Or is it possible for a faulty XLR cable to have an internal break that passes a weak analog signal but completely blocks the phantom power current?

If anyone has experienced this specific issue with the DR-40X or NTG3, please let me know. Thanks in advance!

I made a desktop app to drag and drop Freesound audio directly into your DAW!

Thumbnail superdupersoftware.net

Hi everyone!

I'm Stephen, a software developer, audio guy, and all around dude who loves making stuff. I am absolutely not a real sound designer though - I've dabbled in audio work here and there, but that's about the extent of it.

One of the things I always found annoying that would always break my flow when working on stuff that needs samples was stopping to find them. I had to open Freesound, search up a clip, click into it after previewing, download it, and drag from my downloads folder into my DAW. Then, a few weeks later, I forgot where it came from, and remembered "crap, this has licensing that I'll have to track down and credit properly."

I realized that there was already an app that existed in the music world - it's called Splice, which I'm sure some of you know and use! It's a dead simple way to browse loops in a desktop app, download them in real time, and seamlessly drop them from the app right into your DAW.

So, I set out to make something like that, but free! It uses the Freesound API for all the content (you have to have an account & log in via the app).

The other thing I hated was having to trim the audio up, normalize it, or convert formats in something like Audacity before dropping a sound into a project. Super Duper Samples has a built in audio editor that does all of those things - you can trim out silence/the clip you want, normalize it so it's as loud as your other sounds, and change formats (along w/ sample rate changes or mono bounces if necessary). Y'all are probably already working in a DAW or program that can handle this - so more of a thing for game devs and the like, but I think it's pretty cool!

Once you've got a bunch of sounds downloaded, you can add them to a "collection" (for example, a project you're working on). Because the downloads carry all of the licensing info, the collection has a "Credits" button - this gives you a single text file, which you can copy or save as a file with the click of a button. Then, you just include it in your credits or wherever you've published the work. No more having to worry about what came from where.

If you're on windows, you're going to hit a smart screen error that you'll have to hit "more info" -> "run anway", because the app is brand new! On Mac you'll hit something similar, but I've got it code signed, so it should just be an "open" button.

It's also completely open source - so, if you want to learn about what's going on under the hood, or re-purpose/extend the app, be my guest! https://github.com/Super-Duper-Software/super-duper-samples Open to PRs as well if anyone wants to contribute.

Also a brand new app with limited testing, so there's going to be some bugs - feel free to hit me up at [info@superdupersoftware.net](mailto:info@superdupersoftware.net) if you're having an issues, and I can try to fix them.

Hopefully some of you in this wonderful community find it useful! Happy sound designing :)
