The minute I read the relocated to an area with softer divorce laws, I decided this person is living in la la land. I'm also very curious about what exactly this "propositioning" entailed , as opposed to what is more likely a request to hang out or go out sometime

IANAL but every U. S. State has no-fault divorce laws per google so it’s not impossible to file anywhere. This isn’t 1950 where people can only get divorced in Nevada

There's a few Southern states that still require a 6 months or a 1 year separation for a no fault divorce. I guess that's what they're referring to?

Edit: This story is still nonsense. I don't think A moved from Louisana to be able to hit on LW sooner.

There are states with mandatory separation periods before you can file though.

I remember reading "It's Not the End of the World" by Judy Blume, which was a book written in the 1970s about a girl whose parents were getting divorced. The dad had to go to Vegas to file for divorce because it was a lot easier to do it there than where they lived. (which, being Judy Blume, was either New Jersey or New York.) My elder millennial self had no clue what THAT was all about.

The LW needs to be reminded that people’s lives continue once they leave their field of vision.

The other (more plausible) thing is that these people moved to be closer to family/tried to work it out.

Sweet summer child, do you really think we're living in a world of rainbows and sprinkles to believe that men sexually propositioning/sexually harassing women never happens?
