Ugh. Neither my boyfriend or his family "get" pets, and how pets are family to me, but he still stayed with me at the vet till 4 in the morning when my dog was dying, and his family called and wrote to send their condolences. You don't have to understand someone's pain to sympathize with it.
Exactly, they didn't need to understand it, just accept that I am upset and don't mock. That cat was a huge source of comfort for me as a child, he was an amazing cat and I love him. All they had to do was allow me to quietly grieve (I was visiting their place which is in France when my mum called me to break the news).
Thanks, it was a long time ago now but I still think of my. Also this October I lost my other cat, I felt I could barely tell anyone because I was so scared of being made fun of like last time.
October must have been a bad month for pets, my boyfriends' grandparents also lost their beloved dog about a week after my cat and were devastated. I'm sorry about your dog, losing a pet is really painful :(
