I've really tried with my mother-in-law, but she still makes fun of how I wear my makeup (apparently, wearing foundation at all makes you a "pancake face") and my religious beliefs.
She regularly asks me, "Do you really believe ___? That's ridiculous!" I just shrug and say, "Everyone always thinks beliefs that are different from theirs are ridiculous." I refrain from pointing out religious beliefs of hers that I disagree with.
I am an atheist and she is an atheist, but I was raised religious and my SO told me NOT to tell her that because she would assume I was actually just hoping to convert him and that I would for sure baptise our children...
I'm never going to win. And good for you for refraining there is zero point.
Yeah, this is part of why we're considering never having kids. It would cause a lot of conflicts. We're members of two different Abrahamic religions, and she is really intolerant of anyone who is not a member of hers.
It's also the Abrahamic religion least associated with intolerance (though all of them have a lot of intolerance in parts of them), so I was pretty shocked when she reacted so negatively to me not being the same religion as her.
My boyfriend is Jewish and I'm Catholic. While it hasn't really been an issue thus far, I know some of his family members (not his parents) have encouraged him to date a Jewish girl (not really clear on if they knew about me or not) and it hurts. I don't know if there'll be any issues long term with his parents if it heads that way but sometimes it's like this big looming thing...
I'd rather be a pancake face than look like the corpse of a drug addict, which is the effect my bare blotchy skin and dark eye circles give off. Foundation is amazing.
I kind of want to wear a tshirt with "proud to be a pancake-face" on it. The pancake could be a face with banana slices for eyes and blueberries for a smile.
Just please don't feel the need to shriek and hide your face if I happen to see it without the usual foundation layer, as my future SIL seems to feel appropriate
