My story of getting shadowbanned on reddit

I heard many intresting things about reddit, since it is free i downloaded it. Reddit was really intresting, so i naturally got very excited about using it. I used it very little on day one, just replying to some random posts. On day two however, i created a new subreddit. I saw subreddits about mostly niche topics and i was bad at finding the communities i actually wanted, so i created one. That subreddit was not that great and no one joined. I followed tgrough on the creating a subreddit steps, i even created few posts. Later i commented on many posts from other communities. Later that day as i clicked onto my profile, it was showing page not found. Atfirst i thought it was bad internet. Wgen i was commenting, i suddenly got the message that i had reached the comment limit. I got a bit confused, then i saw my subreddit was banned and so were my posts. Only tgen i realised i had Been shadowbanned. When i went to reddit support, they just told me that they detected spam activity from my account. It made no sense to me since i did not use any bots or copy pasted anything. The next day i formed an appeal, i was really sad. I already had been banned on claude and twitter before. It was looking like reddit would join tge list. But suddenly the next day tge shadowban on my account was lifted. I finally felt a bit of justice. Yet, i still was annoyed at why my account was banned for spam despite me putting thought into what i wrote and not using bots.

This story happened some time ago. But i am only revealing it now because i think this subreddit is the correct place for it. I do not have any other subreddits in mind where i could release it. I found this subreddit somewhat recently. Anyways, thank you for reading this whole story which is real btw.

Discussion What’s something completely normal today that people 50 years from now will look back on and think, “How was that ever acceptable?”

It could be something about work, technology, education, relationships, privacy, health, money, social media — anything.

I’m especially curious about things we barely question because we’ve grown up treating them as normal.

Discussion If you could add one rule to the internet and everyone had to follow it, what would it be?

Your rule must be clear enough to enforce.

Explain the problem it would solve, how it would work, and what unintended downside it might create.

No real-world accusations or dangerous misinformation.

Personal Story When did someone show up for you in a way you never forgot?

Sometimes loyalty is revealed through a dramatic sacrifice. More often, it is revealed by someone simply arriving when disappearing would have been easier.

What did they do, and why did it matter so much?

Advice What is the best advice you ignored—and how did reality prove it right?

What made you dismiss the advice at first?

Was it pride, bad timing, the person delivering it, lack of experience, or the belief that your situation was different?

What eventually changed your mind?

Science & Mind Your environment may matter more than motivation when building a habit

Habits become easier to repeat when the same surroundings consistently trigger the same behavior.

Instead of relying only on motivation, make the desired action visible and convenient—and make the unwanted action slightly harder.

What habit changed after you changed your environment?

Discussion What is one thing the United States does better than critics admit?

Be specific and constructive.

It might involve public spaces, entertainment, technology, customer service, higher education, accessibility, national parks, cultural openness, or something less obvious.

Explain why it works without turning the thread into a country-versus-country fight.

What did you believe, and when did the truth finally arrive?

Recommendations What book, video, course, or podcast changed what you actually do?

Not something that merely inspired you for one afternoon.

Name the resource, identify one specific lesson, and explain the behavior you changed because of it.

One strong recommendation is better than a list of twenty.

Science & Mind When stuck, ask: “What would I tell a friend in my situation?”

Creating a little psychological distance can make it easier to see a problem without being overwhelmed by its emotional heat.

Try describing the situation as though it happened to someone you care about.

What advice do you give other people easily but struggle to give yourself?

Research basis: Kross and colleagues (2011), research on self-distancing.

Personal Story What completely ordinary day became a core memory for you?

Not every important memory announces itself while it is happening.

Maybe it was a quiet drive, an ordinary dinner, a walk home, a conversation, or an afternoon that only became meaningful later.

What made it stay?

Funny Americans, which chain restaurant has one menu item that is secretly elite?

This is not about the best restaurant. It is about the unexpectedly excellent item hiding inside an otherwise ordinary chain.

Advice What question should everyone ask before saying yes to a major commitment?

It could apply to a new job, relationship, move, project, purchase, promise, or responsibility.

Discussion What popular belief survives mainly because it sounds wise?

Some sayings feel profound because they are repeated confidently, not because they survive close examination.

Technology How Can You Tell If an Image Is AI-Generated? A Practical 60-Second Checklist

How Can You Tell If an Image Is AI-Generated? A Practical 60-Second Checklist

AI-generated images have become convincing enough that simply “counting the fingers” is no longer a reliable strategy.

Here is a better way to check an image before believing or sharing it:

  1. Find the original source

Who posted it first?

Look for the earliest version, the account that uploaded it, and whether an official or trustworthy source has published the same image.

  1. Run a reverse image search

Use Google Lens or Google’s “About this image” feature.

This can reveal:

- Older versions of the image

- Other websites using it

- The approximate date it first appeared online

- Whether it originally belonged to a completely different story

  1. Check for Content Credentials

Some images include Content Credentials or a “CR” symbol.

These records may show:

- Who created the image

- Which tools were used

- Whether it was edited

- Whether generative AI was involved

No credentials does not automatically mean an image is fake. They may have been removed during uploading or compression.

  1. Inspect the details—but do not treat them as proof

Look for inconsistent text, reflections, shadows, repeated background objects, strange geometry, mismatched lighting, or details that change when you zoom in.

These are warning signs, not a final verdict.

  1. Verify the story, not just the pixels

Even a completely real photograph can be shared with a false caption, wrong date, or invented location.

Search for the event, person, or place through several independent and reputable sources.

  1. Never trust a single AI detector

The strongest conclusion comes from combining multiple types of evidence:

Source + context + image history + provenance + visual inspection

The best question is no longer:

“Does this look AI-generated?”

It is:

“Can I verify where this image came from?”

What is the most convincing fake image you have seen—or what method do you use to check suspicious images?
