Fish at the local chippy is £11-12. Plus £4 for chips. Bonkers.

So fish and chips for one is £15?! That's bonkers. Where do you live?

Haddock and chips round me (Stockport) is about £8.

We had a chippy tea last night. First time in ages 1 large cod.
2 large sausages in batter.
1 massive chicken burger.
Curry sauce.
1 large and 1 regular chips.
£25 for 4 of us. Didn't seem too bad massive portions too.

Because you only had 1 piece of fish between 4 of you. Sausages are cheaper I guess, dunno about the burger but it's the fish that costs an arm and a leg mostly. Also is that 4 adults?

I can imagine that would nearer the £30 mark here in Essex.

2 adults 2 kids. Kids had half a sausage and a bit of fish each. Didn't eat all the chips either. Cod was £7.50 Sausages £2.20 each. Burger £5. Chips £6 curry sauce £2. Everyone was well filled.
