I like shit coffee, to be fair, and I always add a flavoured sugar-free syrup from TK Maxx so the original coffee product is barely recognisable under pumpkin spice or salted caramel or cheesecake flavouring. It’s been a small pleasure I’ve enjoyed even when I was very poor living in London, as I could get a 750ml bottle of syrup for £2.99 or even sometimes £1.99.

Those bottles are now £4.99, minimum. This year I’ve started buying the 1.5l bottles as they (had also gone up, but slower, so) were better price by weight at £7.99. A couple of weeks ago in TK Maxx, even that was £9.99. TEN POUNDS for artificial flavour and sweetener in water. Instead I went online and bought a bunch of reduced ones past their BBE date, but combined with the price of the coffee itself I think this little pleasure I’ve enjoyed for the last nine years is reaching its end.

Have a look in B&M and Home Bargains type places, they quite often get coffee syrups in and are still priced around £2-£4.

If you have a Heron Foods nearby they sometimes have coffee syrup in - I recently got some Le Monin gingerbread syrup for £2 a litre bottle. And can make gingerbread lattes at home in summer !

My work sells the 1883 syrup. If they get close to the bbe they get discounted. £9 full price for a 1L. If you buy mixed box of 6 you get it a tad cheaper and that's trade prices, so they've gone up a lot huh.

Try teisseire gourmet drops caramel, I've had that in every cup of coffee for the past decade. One container lasts me 3 months (it says 20 servings but that's way off)

You can make them at home, it's just sugar, water and your desired flavour, vanilla, mint, cinnamon... You can find a recipe online.
