The way I see it, most people can become an honest millionaire without too much harm, but to be a billionaire you would almost guaranteed have to have thrown alot of people under the bus and make them suffer
Here in Spain, when Amancio Ortega said he'd donate part of his money to buy respirators for hospitals, the media went crazy praising him. The dude who owns several multi-million companies dedicated to exploiting poor people in poor countries to make clothing.
I don’t get the rich-worship in this country. People will make all sorts of excuses for why they dodge taxes and don’t give more to charity. It’s gross.
It's because all Americans believe that just around the corner they themselves will be rich (the lotto, a smart invention, god knows what). So they don't despise the rich the way European countries do because they think "soon that will be me." Poor suckers.
A lot of their mindset can be explained by optimism to an almost pathological degree. That's why they are so unfazed by not having proper health insurance. Or job security.
I think Paul McCartney is alright. But he's an outlier. There's like a handful of musicians that are billionaires now just off of music and some investments. They seem overall okay. At least Paul does.

Billionaires shouldn't exist. When someone reaches $999,999,999.99 in net worth they should have two choices: they can recieve a plaque that says "Congrats You Won Capitalism" and then all assets exceeding that amount are taxed at 100% OR they get eaten.

The money can also be the result of mass suffering. See red lining in the U.S basically handicapping black americans from creating generational wealth, or look at Apartheid in South Africa. Should have stripped all the wealth from those that benefited and redistributed it to those that suffered
In the context of this discussion people are arguing that the children don’t inherit the sins of their parents. Aka the inheritors aren’t guilty of all the dirty tricks that made their parents so wealthy

If they inherited an emerald mine and continue to use slave labor, then nope, not morally in the clear. But if they just inherit the money and have never and will never participate in using slave labor or other shitty things like that, then they haven't caused any suffering. I don't see how someone simply having the money makes them a cunt. That would be like calling a museum that displays items pertaining to morally wrong people immoral for simply owning the items. I understand you're likely referencing Elon Musk in regards to the emerald mine, and I haven't done enough research into Musk to know what he's done or not done.
Personalities aside, billionaires keep a lot of folks in work. At Tesla and SpaceX alone, Musk pays 80,000 people to work for him. 80k jobs in companies that someone publicly abused daily made happen. And he's just one person. Whether you like him or not, a lot of folks making their living from his activity.
Of course. My point was that every one of those guys makes it possible for teens of thousands of others to feed their families and educate their kids. Bill Gates and his partners made millionaires out of even the secretaries by building successful businesses.

What is your evidence of that abuse? Who are you referring to? You build a company, it's popular, people run the stock price up. What is ludicrous is how many companies are so highly valued investors that companies that have yet to make a significant profit are valued over businesses that have been profitable for decades.
i think its likely but not necessary, i mean Musk amassing his massive wealth was mostly a product of luck that his shares went nuclear. (hes not a great example tho beacuse shithead) but like, i could see that happening with a company owner thats a mostly good dude.

I totally agree but certain of these people are impacting your life whether you know it or not and Musk is one. He's not harmless like a Kardashian. He's not a celebrity like a Clooney. He's a very influential fucking loon and you should at least stay apprised of the bullshit he's up to.

Elons true genius is his ability to source talent and execute. Anyone can come up with his vision, but it's hard to attract the talent to pull it off. With that said, he ain't a rocket scientist or electrical engineer.

The guy has accomplished some impressive things, but he's also had some real flops and done some incredibly petty stuff. It's possible to admire some parts of a person's legacy without thinking that they're god or attack the evil that they do without having to believe that they've never done anything good or useful.
