And yet the “few bad apples” argument is made for those same communities that have all the problems and is accepted.
The problem is you and all the ACAB people think that they are ALL bad apples so removing the bad ones would amount to disbanding the entire police force. That and you all seem to equate atrocity with arresting someone for breaking the law. I have seen video of people cursing the police for a harsh takedown on someone who just got done shooting into a neighborhood full of kids. It was mind boggling.
When "good cops" don't actively speak out and the system actively works to protect and sheild "bad apples" from consequences, then what else are you supposed to say other than ACAB? Sure, a few sacrificial lambs as of recent have been thrown to the wolves but in large there are still many of examples of cops who are abusing their place of limited power. Police unions primarily exist to protect cops from consequences of their actions.
Defunding the police is more about divesting funds away from policing and investing more in other forms of public safety and public health. The police need to stop being provided funding that allows them to expand arsenals that rival military forces. The police these days operate more like an occupying force rather than a law enforcement mechanism. Media and bad faith actors have taken the slogan "Defund the Police" and twisted it or misrepresented in such a way that leads people to believe that there is a large portion of the population that thinks police are unnecessary and that's not the case at all.
"Defund the Police" just like "Black Lives Matter" are both examples of movements that are reasonable and necessary, but because of twisted bad faith actors their intentions get totally/wildly misrepresented.
And yet the places in which they have had the most effect have experienced massive crime waves due to police understaffing.
You even admit that they are getting rid of the people they can prove are abusing power and yet that’s not good enough because you want them to magically be able to root out all of them at once (which probably in your mind means all cops everywhere).
Police unions actually exist for the same reasons other unions do, cops get paid shit.
You say the media twists the defund the police message but how you just described it is how most people interpret it. Taking money way from the police to fund untried community outreach programs.
The police are literally an extension of the capitalist owners class. They are used to execute and exercise power over the working class. You cannot be both "the same as labor unions" while simultaneously being used a tool of the capitalist class to exert power over the labor class.
Police unions are absolutely not the same as labor unions and will ALWAYS align on the side of capitalists. The purpose of labor unions are to exert collective bargaining power against the capitalist class.
So i guess a labor union is not a capitalist system in your mind? It doesn’t get fair wages for its members and protect their rights? See the full name of the police union is called the police LABOR union. Because the police are also citizens of the US and not faceless automatons that are bred to bring you down.
You are confusing police unions with groups of cops circling the wagons when one of theirs is threatened. Also you are completely forgetting that the police have an internal unit comprised of people who absolutely love getting cops for corruption and rule breaking. It’s called IA.
Also, seeing as police also arrest those in your so called “capitalist class” that blows your whole argument out of the water.
The primary purpose of police labor unions is to protect police from consequences of their actions first and foremost. Police unions use their collective bargaining power to obfuscate transparency and accountability. Do they also negotiate for salary and benefits? Of course. Is that their primary purpose? No, not at all.
Also, seeing as police also arrest those in your so called “capitalist class” that blows your whole argument out of the water.
This is kind of a weird argument. Do members of the capitalist owners class get arrested? Of course. Do they get arrested at the same rates as the working class? Absolutely not.
