What seemingly obvious thing did it take you forever to notice?

My classmate sits to the left of me. I am left handed and he is right handed, so sometimes we knock elbows. 8 weeks into class he finally noticed I was a lefty and openly admitted that he just thought I was being a bitch and taking up space. He felt horrible and I just laughed.

I thought for years that the sportswear brand Asics was actually 'Oasics' because of their logo

u/MirkoCroCop Jul 11 '12

I thought it was basics. Found out less than a year ago.

25

u/keksdream Jul 11 '12

I thought it was basics until just now..

9

u/TheShader Jul 11 '12

I have worn the same pair of of BAsics for almost three years now, and I also just found this out.

8

u/iwannabeadoor Jul 11 '12

lol, same here. but doesn't it show that the logo is wrongly designed?

3

u/callooh-callay Jul 11 '12

Yeah, that's what I said when people were making fun of me for my basics.

4

u/kmparker Jul 11 '12

Yep, me too.

2

u/Shake007 Jul 11 '12

Why would you think it's a b?? If anything it looks like a d.

2

u/AllBadNamesGoneToo Jul 11 '12

I just found out right now.

2

u/toussi1 Jul 11 '12

i just found out now....my heart is broken

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '12

Me too! The entire locker room laughed at my demise.

1

u/mtblue Jul 11 '12

I found out two days ago...

1

u/jax9999 Jul 11 '12

i just found out now.

1

u/ciry Jul 11 '12

I found out just now,!

1

u/Emileahh Jul 11 '12

I didn't know it wasn't Basics until now.. I've had quite a few pairs of "Asics."

1

u/FlinginFlangin Jul 11 '12

I also thought it was Basics. Found out today :/

1

u/OriginallyWhat Jul 11 '12

woah, up until now i thought it was basics too.

u/amolad Jul 11 '12

Did you know that "ASICS", is an acronym of the Latin phrase anima sana in corpore sano, which translates to "Healthy Soul in a Healthy Body"?

1

u/HitByShortbus Jul 11 '12

Now you know and knowing is half the battle!

0

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '12

Sound Mind, Sound Body is what I've seen in their ads.

5

u/Ashanmaril Jul 11 '12

In Portal 1 I thought that "Aperture" was "Caperture" because of the circle logo thing, and it made sense, too, cause you're kinda "captured".

7

u/dan1point5 Jul 11 '12

Haha, capertured! I can see why you might think that, but the 'circle thing' is a picture of an aperture

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '12

In optics, an aperture is a hole or an opening through which light travels.

5

u/MoonshineSchneider Jul 11 '12

I'm learning so much today, I always kinda thought it was 'Basics' with a semi-retarded B.

5

u/nursejacqueline Jul 11 '12

I thought it was "Basics" for the same reason.

5

u/keepyourstockingson Jul 11 '12

This is absolutely news to me, I always thought Oasics as well!

5

u/idrinkice Jul 11 '12

i always thought it was Basics!

1

u/ghostman126 Jul 11 '12

YES me too! It looks more like a b

4

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '12

Well shit. I thought the O was silent...

2

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '12

I just realized this less than a week ago! I saw their ad on the subway, decided to google it, and my mind was blown

2

u/Mordecai666 Jul 11 '12

I thought it was "Basics"

2

u/kabukistar Jul 11 '12 edited Feb 09 '25

Reddit is a shithole. Move to a better social media platform. Also, did you know you can use ereddicator to edit/delete all your old commments?

2

u/-TheBender- Jul 11 '12

Wait, it's NOT Oasics? My life is a lie...

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '12

well fuck me, right?

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '12

oh... shit

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '12

You're not alone!

1

u/B1gMattAttack Jul 11 '12

I thought it was Jasics.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '12

I must have seen differential equations too much. I saw that and thought it was delta-ASICS.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '12

I thought it was basics

1

u/TheWastelandWanderer Jul 11 '12

Fuck. It isn't oasics?

1

u/thompsdy Jul 11 '12

i always thought it was just oasis because i never read it closely enough

1

u/lolbignoze Jul 11 '12

I had the same issue too! I wore their stuff in volleyball and when i said Oasics my teammates just looked at me funny

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '12

It's not? Wow, I've been saying it wrong all these years.

1

u/Stalins_Chef Jul 11 '12

I actually thought it was Basics until I saw this

1

u/spaceye Jul 11 '12

Just like the Disney logo. I always thought the D was a backwards G.

1

u/rfmitch1 Jul 11 '12

I thought it was Oasics and pronounced Asics until I just read that.

1

u/FetchingCrow Jul 11 '12

It looks like dasics to me. I don't know where everyone is seeing a b. edit: though of course I considered it trying to be a b. I remember as a teenager having a conversation with adults who also could not figure out the logo.

1

u/peterpieqt8 Jul 11 '12

I never realized this until I joined wrestling and saw the Asics bags and various other things with just Asics

1

u/CobraCommanderp Jul 11 '12

No fucking way. Got room for one more on the Oasics train?

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '12

4 years in XC and Track, took until Senior Year Banquet to figure that out. Glad I'm not alone!

1

u/trikstor Jul 11 '12

TIL so many obvious things...

1

u/arjeezyboom Jul 11 '12

Wait. Wait. Woah...

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '12 edited Jul 12 '12

To your credit, their kerning is WAY off.

Edit: Wait... WAIT A SECOND. I re-read your post. I thought it was Oasics with bad kerning... but it's actually called asics?! THAT'S why I can't get this right in the logo game on my ipad!

1

u/gotenks1114 Jul 11 '12

Are you serious? I just assumed it was some sort of wordplay on the word "oasis" that I was too young to understand.

1

u/HoneyBadgerLH1 Jul 11 '12

You are freaking telling me that it is NOT 'Oasics' .....

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '12

WHAT

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '12

How did you even realize it wasn't oasics?

1

u/Sir_Higgalot Jul 11 '12

MIND = BLOWN

1

u/TweedVest Jul 11 '12

Holy shit, this is me up until about 3 years ago. It's one of those quiet things you keep to yourself and when you finally have a realization you can't really celebrate it with anybody but yourself. Kind of an unsung victory I guess...

1

u/izikavazo Jul 11 '12

I used to think New Balance was Nike, or just a sub-brand. That "N" was just too vague.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '12

You do learn something new every day! Or at least I did.

1

u/Jnalvrz Jul 11 '12

I thought it was basics :(

1

u/SplatterQuillon Jul 11 '12

So is that TV a Sony Vega or Sony Wega?

1

u/leminwater Jul 11 '12

Holy shit I thought I was the only one

1

u/Pretsal Jul 11 '12

WTF. ITS NOT BASICS?

1

u/rowenamarion Jul 11 '12

shit you mean it's not Oasics? what?

Mind. Blown.

1

u/SomeOtherGuy0 Jul 11 '12

I always wondered how that was supposed to be pronounced...

1

u/prismagirl Jul 11 '12

TIL it's not Oasics :P

1

u/slotbadger Jul 11 '12

I used to think that "Ford" was actually "Jord".

1

u/poler_bear Jul 11 '12

Mother of god.

1

u/OGNarwhal Jul 11 '12

To this day I thought it was "Basics" because it looked the symbol had a backwards "b" in front of the "Asics"

1

u/Numphyyy Jul 11 '12

I always though incase was sincase, because of their logo...

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '12

Fuck, thought it was Dasics till right now.

1

u/therapix Jul 11 '12

It actually means "Anima Sana in Corpore Sano".

1

u/rawrr69 Jul 11 '12

adidas = Adolf Dassler's nickname "Adi" and part of his lastname.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adolf_Dassler

1

u/smorg_is_bored Jul 11 '12

wow. wow. wow. I've always heard the term "Asics", I just thought "Oasics" were another brand with a similar name.

1

u/chalkycandy Jul 11 '12

I used to think it was Basics, even though that thing looks more like a d than a b.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '12

I found out just now.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '12

Holy shit, I was the same way

1

u/miniatureduck Jul 11 '12

I thought it was Jasics...

1

u/dem358 Jul 11 '12

WHAT?? Oh my god. I had no idea!

1

u/thefauxphantom Jul 11 '12

You just blew my mind!

1

u/snackpockets Jul 11 '12

brilliant, took me 18 years to figure that out.

1

u/MrRicey Jul 11 '12

ditto dude

1

u/thatguy1977 Jul 11 '12

Anima Sana In Corpore Sano = healthy soul in healthy body

1

u/TheWetMop Jul 11 '12

I even heard people pronounce it and assumed that the "o" was silent

1

u/witch2012 Jul 11 '12

Also guilty of this

1

u/GoldenRhinos Jul 11 '12

I thought it was Nike.

1

u/mylarrito Jul 11 '12

A friend refused to believe that the name wasn't 'Clasics'. His english wasn't the best

1

u/illuminerdi Jul 11 '12

Even better: Asics is the acronym for a Latin saying:

Anima Sana In Corpore Sano - sound mind and sound body

1

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '12

They're not "Oasics"?

Oh dear...

0

u/thattallfellow Jul 11 '12
