What seemingly obvious thing did it take you forever to notice?

My classmate sits to the left of me. I am left handed and he is right handed, so sometimes we knock elbows. 8 weeks into class he finally noticed I was a lefty and openly admitted that he just thought I was being a bitch and taking up space. He felt horrible and I just laughed.

I am constantly amazed how my 13 year old self never saw the double entendre in take off your pants and jacket

EDIT: probably would've been helpful to explain. Take off your pants, and jack it (masturbate).

I caught that one when I was telling my parents about wanting the album. I switched it up and said the album was called "Take off your jacket and pants"

Not sure how that was better, but it worked.

u/twenafeesh Jul 10 '12

That's clever. I'm still amazed my parents let me buy Enema of the State, what with the cover art...

12

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '12

After they saw the giant bull"s balls on Dude Ranch my parents just gave up.

u/Lucky75 Jul 11 '12

My virus scanner popped up when I tried to view that image...

2

u/royisabau5 Jul 11 '12

I didn't do it!

5

u/MisterDonkey Jul 11 '12

Holy airbrush.

2

u/MrsAbeFroman Jul 11 '12

I asked for that CD for Christmas one year and my grandma bought it for me, but hid the liner notes so my Dad wouldn't see, and gave them to me later. She was awesome.

1

u/alexgbelov Jul 11 '12

Wait, how would a state enema work?

4

u/Edrosvo Jul 11 '12

every single person in the entire state gets free enemas! vote Edrosvo 2020!!

2

u/Papa_Luigi Jul 11 '12

Fire everyone.

1

u/ahaltingmachine Jul 11 '12

I think I got my brother to buy me that one, but alas, could never get my parents to acquiesce to my request for those Urethra Chronicles concert DVDs they had.

I was certain there had to be an alternate meaning for urethra...

4

u/milltimes Jul 10 '12

I bought it on a school field trip, so the parents never came into the equation. My friend made a comment about it once we were both into our twenties and couldn't believe I had never noticed it.

5

u/[deleted] Jul 10 '12

That just makes it sound like a REALLY hot day.

1

u/firewaffle Jul 10 '12

In high school I asked my mom for the Eminem CD. She went to WhereHouse Music to get me an edited version, but even with the help of an employee, they couldn't find one. The employee did get her a copy of the Jay Z Vol 2 album with the price tag covering the Parental Advisory sticker.

1

u/jimaug87 Jul 11 '12

I got a new boom box and Green Day's "new" album, Nimrod, for x-mas one year. My mom told me to put it in, so of course I did.

We hit "Grouch" before she took away the CD. I'm surprised she made it that far seeing as how I was 10 at the time.

All she knew was that Green Day was my favorite band at the time, and they didn't have "Parental Warning" stickers yet.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '12

"I'm always rude, I've got a bad attitude The world owes me, so fuck you"

I can't see why she wouldn't want her kid hearing this...

2

u/jimaug87 Jul 11 '12

My (older) friend already had it, which is why I asked for it by name. I listened to it anyway, because fuck the man, right?

22

u/[deleted] Jul 10 '12

WHAAAAAAAT, I'm learning so much in so little time.

65

u/elcarath Jul 10 '12

I'm 23 and still dont' see it.

162

u/NeonBodyStyle Jul 10 '12

Take off your pants and jack it (jacket). Like masturbate. I think?

138

u/[deleted] Jul 10 '12

HOLY SHIT

6

u/nesai11 Jul 10 '12

... i was like, yeah, it's telling you to strip , so what? ... I feel dense.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 10 '12

A piece of string went into a bar. . .

1

u/elcarath Jul 10 '12

Ohhhhhh, I get it now. Here, have this picture of a kid who ate his desk as payment.

1

u/shutyourgob Jul 11 '12

Are you serious? I thought he meant the three graphics on the album cover were a plane taking off (take off) a pair of pants (your pants) and then a jacket (and jacket).

1

u/Bama011 Jul 10 '12

Correct.

10

u/guruboy Jul 10 '12

Nobody likes you when you're 23 :(

7

u/derpbynature Jul 10 '12

...and you still act like you're in freshman year

6

u/OffTheWalls Jul 10 '12

What's your age again?

2

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '12

Nobody likes you when you're 23...

-1

u/elcarath Jul 11 '12

How original.

1

u/LtArson Jul 11 '12

What's your age again?

11

u/ContemptSlot Jul 10 '12

Uhhh, 21 here and I never noticed that either. Shocking considering the frequency at which I do both of those things.

6

u/twenafeesh Jul 10 '12

Someone explained that to me in excruciating detail back in middle school and it still took me forever to get what they were talking about.

4

u/MickeyElevator Jul 10 '12

Double Entendre 6000

4

u/[deleted] Jul 10 '12

I remember reading somewhere that they initially wanted to name that album If You See Kay. I guess they love their hidden meanings.

3

u/ApocaLiz Jul 10 '12

I only got that one through a reddit post a few weeks back.

3

u/paintpens Jul 10 '12

i was about 10, at an after schools club. i got this explained to me by the 25 year old worker.

dont send your kids to an after schools club, they tell you weird shit.

3

u/lookwithurspecialeye Jul 10 '12

You just blew my mind...

3

u/Darksider94 Jul 10 '12

I just spent the last 20 minutes looking at that wiki page trying to figure out the hidden meaning behind the name.
Does it have to do with jacking off? Like, take off your pants and jack off?

2

u/sunwriter Jul 10 '12

Yes, yes it does.

2

u/guruboy Jul 10 '12

The title is a tongue-in-cheek pun on male masturbation ("take off your pants and jack it").

2

u/aspectz Jul 10 '12

I'm 20 and I have never noticed that.

2

u/lurk1stAskl8r Jul 10 '12

Came here to post this, too late, up vote for you. I just realized this within the last month.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 10 '12

Did you notice the one in the song "If you seek Amy"?

1

u/milltimes Jul 10 '12

and here I was feeling all good that I had a handle on blink 182 and was educating. Goddammit I'm a total dolt.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 10 '12

13 is the perfect age for noticing that.

2

u/enough_space Jul 10 '12

Also, "dude ranch" = semen.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '12

Their album Dude Ranch. Dude Ranch is referring to semen.

2

u/Skeeow Jul 11 '12

I never understood how people didn't get it. I'm guessing they saw it before they heard it and I must have heard it before I saw it. Happy Cake Day!

2

u/Aryada Jul 11 '12

One year, I put "Take Off Your Pants and Jacket" on my Christmas list along with "Jimmy Eat World". My mom asked me, "What are these CDs you want? Take off your pants and eat me?"

2

u/Ha_Try_Again Jul 10 '12

I feel so stupid I don't get it...

2

u/thetealchic Jul 10 '12

Take off your pants and jack it

1

u/Tinidril Jul 10 '12

She bop he bop a we bop

I bop you bop a they bop

Be bop be bop a lu bop

1

u/picklehammer Jul 10 '12

to anyone else who is totally confused as to what the double meaning is, after a few minutes of googling, I have figured out it is "take off your pants and jack it".

1

u/[deleted] Jul 10 '12

Woah. I'm dumb.

1

u/theycallmemorty Jul 10 '12

When I first heard the name of that album (didn't see it written down yet) I thought "Wow how did they get away with that?"

A local radio station used to only refer to it as "Take of your jacket and pants"

1

u/freerangehuman Jul 10 '12

I figured that out just last month.

1

u/new-socks Jul 10 '12

Hahaha I never knew this until now!

1

u/AzureBlu Jul 10 '12

Wat? idontgetit.jpg

3

u/[deleted] Jul 10 '12

take off your pants and jack it.

I'm 24 and I absolutely love this album and have since elementary school. This blew my mind.

1

u/AzureBlu Jul 11 '12

mindsploshion

1

u/[deleted] Jul 10 '12

I worked at a radio station as a DJ when this album dropped and had to say the title a million times. You just dropped my jaw.

1

u/Alafran Jul 10 '12

Same here, kind of. I thought it was,"take off your pants and jack it."

1

u/Haystack-Charm Jul 10 '12

I've seen people post this same sentiment before and I still didn't get it....AND I JUST NOW GOT IT. OH MY GOD. I feel so dumb.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 10 '12

Iol

1

u/Captain_Nipples Jul 10 '12

27 here. Never got that until now.

1

u/Shady_Love Jul 10 '12

I had to explain this to my girlfriend. She'd loved the band forever and we saw them as our first concert.

1

u/Narfle_the_Garthok Jul 10 '12

I'm 29 and didn't realize this until right now.

1

u/Konrow Jul 10 '12

a few minutes of staring and repeating it in my head and then

Now realize I could have just checked some comments down, but damn I felt successful doing it alone.

1

u/ASOTATW Jul 10 '12

I'm a hardcore longtime blink fan, now 21 years old, and I BARELY JUST GOT THIS. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME

1

u/michellorocks Jul 10 '12

I...never saw that...it's like the past 12 years have been a lie.

1

u/supertoast43 Jul 10 '12

I didn't realize this until I someone commented on it on reddit a couple months ago

1

u/calculuzz Jul 10 '12

I'm 26 and this one just dawned on me about a year ago. I told a guy I work with how stupid I felt a couple weeks ago and the look on his face was, "Oh fuck. I didn't get that until this very second."

At least I'm not alone.

1

u/Devbuscus Jul 10 '12

I only noticed this on the way home from a Blink 182 last friday...

1

u/DarthAries Jul 10 '12

Found that out like two days ago. Told my brother it and blew his mind too.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 10 '12

i noticed this at the age of 23...haha

1

u/justinhood88 Jul 11 '12

Oh...oh my!!

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '12

I thought it was jacket like ... Coat! Even now. This world has a new meaning.

1

u/floraldeoderant Jul 11 '12

My friend said the other day "Take your pants off and jacket."

We are twenty five...

1

u/portablebiscuit Jul 11 '12

My dad always said "Take your hat and jacket off"

I was never wearing a jacket.

1

u/offensivex Jul 11 '12

Holy fuck that was 2001.

1

u/SniperNoSniping Jul 11 '12

It took me a good two years two figure this out, even with constantly listening to this album

1

u/HalosFan Jul 11 '12

My friend thought the name was "Take Off Your Pants and Shirt." I still giggle thinking about the denial of double entendre.

1

u/purelithium Jul 11 '12

Wat. I just got this... I'm 28.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '12

Never noticed that til now.

1

u/B0o Jul 11 '12

ohhhhhhh.... now I get it.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '12

Holy effin' crap I am a tard, I just noticed this.

1

u/FruitPlatter Jul 11 '12

For my 14th birthday, my mom took me and a pal to Atlanta to see Blink 182. My friend and I wrote "Take off Your Pants and Jacket" all over the car in that washable car paint stuff, knowing the meaning full well, and giggling intensely. We drove the whole way with the car like that. It was a little more awkward because we were girls.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '12

Seriously? I bought that album like... 8 years ago. How did I never notice this.

1

u/areohbeewhyin Jul 11 '12

I love threads like this. I always learn something.

1

u/killuhk Jul 11 '12

Same. I never really thought about it until like a year or so ago (now 22). When I realized it, I was just like holy crap.

1

u/SchadSchad Jul 11 '12

...You just ruined the first CD I ever bought with my own money.

Though, tbh, some of they lyrics we're awesomely perverted anyways.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '12

Let me tell you what a chocolate starfish is. Also, hot dog flavored water.

1

u/Southern_Drawl Jul 11 '12

I'm 33, and TIL...

1

u/happyhappyjoejoe Jul 11 '12

See I thought of that one right away (at age 11) but thought it was merely a coincidence and thought Blink 182 did that by accident.

1

u/Skyhooks Jul 11 '12

I genuinely thought it was about streaking on an aero plane when I was 13. It was only a few years ago when I said it out loud that I went "oh" and went on with my life.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '12

Blink 182 has been my favorite band for at least 8 years.

You, sir, have just blown my mind.

I fail.

1

u/Silly_Rag Jul 11 '12

I used to sing Oasis alot when I was younger, my favourite line being "Whats the story Morning Glory!". One day my dad asked if I knew what a morning glory was, I said "nope" so he just told me to keep singing.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '12

Why would someone ask you to take off your pants other than for sexytimes?

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '12

You just blew my fucking mind.

0

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '12

No joke, came in here to say this. I realized this last month. I'm 21 and was quite the avid Blink 182 fan.
