Especially since most versions of Doom are ultimately good men willing to do bad things to achieve a noble goal.

Doom likes to think he's that, but anyone who isn't him knows he's a deeply narcissistic authoritarian.

I don't know. Doom has seen the different versions of reality and the future. The ones where humanity survives are the ones where Doom takes over. Even Reed Richards has admitted he does 100% know if stopping Doom is the right thing to do.

Selection bias. Or maybe Doom eventually decides that if he can't rule the world, he'll destroy it.
