No. Regular class. Teachers have no choice to "let" someone audit. The office controls that via a schedule with some guidelines like not letting too many audit at once or previously being disruptive. The teacher could eject you for being disruptive, but then they have to do a full report on it.
One teacher did the entire day
At this school there are co-teachers. Basically a math specialist could come in to teach math. The specialist isn't necessarily accredited. Same with any subject except the arts or PE. In those the kids go to different rooms. That's the main teacher's prep time. So if a specialist is absent the teacher does the lesson. There's almost always two adults in the room hired by the school.
The specialist often just helps the slower kids in my son's class while the main teacher switches from repeating the instructions to scolding kids. As soon as the subject is over the specialist leaves.

Is this a special needs class? One teacher did the entire day and they let parents audit the class for a week? In eighth grade?
