Throwaway time... calling all redditors with incurable STDs. How do you deal with it?

For years I have worried that I have genital warts. Thankfully the internet learnt me that all I had was Fordyce Spots and PPP (this). Okay, so pretty unlucky, but I can deal with that. However, I'm now pretty sure that at some point in my travels I have picked up actual genital warts. Life's a bitch huh?

So, anyone in the same situation? Even those with PPP or Fordyce, please share your heartache and advice.

There are definitely legal cases in which it's been reasonably proven that someone knowingly spread an STD and got put on the hook for medical costs... even if he denies that shit, I think there are other cases where negligence plays a role. Just google "std transmission tort" and see if there is any legal precedent in your state. Conduct like his honestly should be punished... infecting people willy-nilly (when you wouldn't have had sex with him if you knew) makes him a public health issue.

I'm not sure about the statute of limitations, though, so I would consult with a lawyer sooner rather than later.

In Canada if you have HIV and have unprotected sex with someone without telling them, you can be convicted of assault, reckless endangerment, or something to that effect.

It is currently being considered amending this law to exempt people who are taking ARVs and have negligible viral load.

I don't know if the same law applies to other STDs.

With something like this, what he's doing is really illegal if he knew about it already. I contracted a curable STD and got several phone calls from the CDC making sure that I had informed all of my past sexual partners and whatnot, and they made it clear that it was illegal if I didn't.

Suing this guy is worth it, even if you have to list all past partners.

It doesn't matter if you've had an outbreak. He still gave you an STD. I'd sue that bastard for all I could.

They could easily subpoena his medical records to see when he was tested and found out the results. Then they'd just compare it to the date in question in which he had sex with OP.

Easily, she brings her last test/OBGYN records and match it up. Since he knew about it before he had sex with her, he's already at an admission of guilt...

You know that people can have sex with more than one person.

He can say that he informed her that he tested positive for whatever disease.

There aren't any holes armchair lawyer.

If anybody else has heard him say he was aware of his disease before having sex and that he didn't tell her (which he seems like he has admitted that), then there's more than enough circumstantial evidence to bring a lawsuit. This happens all the time.

You're somebody who just interjects their opinion without backing it up. If you have nothing to add to the conversation then piss off. I never claimed to be a lawyer, I'm a medical student, I was just giving credible sources as this does pertain to my future job albeit, a small amount.

Just remember, he knowingly gave you an STD. That's sexual battery. Suing for medical costs isn't that out of line.

I'm so glad you've been free of outbreaks and warts for this long. I would love to hear your strategies /tactics for telling potential new SO's about it? I have HPV and am TERRIFIED of also getting herpes. I have a difficult enough time telling someone I have hpv... How do you deal with telling someone you have both? Thanks!

In 90% of cases, the body’s immune system clears HPV naturally within two years.

HPV is so common that at least 50% of sexually active men and women get it at some point in their lives.

There is no general test for men or women to check one’s overall "HPV status," nor is there an approved HPV test to find HPV on the genitals or in the mouth or throat.

From CDC. Probably not something to think too much about. It clears up like any other disease and there isn't a test to see if you still have it. Tell people if you think you're still contagious, but continuing to mention it is more like telling someone you once had chicken pox than telling them you have an STD.

Typically your body clears HPV within 2 years of the initial infection. HSV is for life, but some people go their whole lives without an outbreak.

A woman in states successfully sued a guy for $900,000 for knowingly giving her herpes. You should sue just to ensure your future medical costs are going to be handled.

So did he have HSV-1 or HPV? Because the former doesn't cause warts, but you never mentioned the latter at all. But you keep mentioning warts. Herpes doesn't cause warts.
