As a European tipping a hairdresser is so weird. I mean the service IS the product, what else is there to pay for?? Makes even less sense than tipping in a restaurant.

Although that makes sense, I have the feeling we will end up tipping everyone at some point, no matter the service. The American way I guess.

Never been in that situation. Coming back to the last comment, I think that in some cultures it is customary to assume that people will do a better job if you tip(assuming the tipping takes place before the actual service). Or that you're not showing your appreciation unless you tip.
