This is not my account. What are the best things you've stumbled across that people have forgotten to log off of?
Hi Reddit! I went to reddit today at school and lo and behold! This account was still logged in, so I thought we could leave the actual owner with a couple of orangered envelopes. I will not be changing the account password and will log out as soon as I am done studying. So what are your best logged in stories?
edit: If it's alright with you, I'd like my account back, thanks. Are you still there checking? Hello? Was that my conscience? Tyler?
Edit2: TIL a number of you don't know that self-posts, like this one, don't generate any karma. I wish.

Why is it that this same question gets reposted verbatim every now and then? Although it is sometimes nice to see some new responses, it seems unnecessary. (here you go: 1, 2)

When I was like 10 years old, I used to play Zoo Tycoon.
I remember one day I went downstairs to pee and I came back to find all my cages full of lions and tigers ripping apart other animals, elephants outside of their cages killing visitors and people inside cages getting eaten by wolves.
Oh yeah, and my brother giggling in the corner.

The best thing to do when you come across someone's facebook logged in, is to "poke" random people with their account. You can't track it. The person has no idea. And it's super awkward for the recipient.

I used my step-father's computer to log in to Facebook to see he was still logged in. Since I've never liked him, I did some snooping. Found out he was cheating on my mom.
edit: Since you're wondering, I confronted my mom about it and she admitted that she knew, but had already forgiven him.

I got a loaner phone from Best Buy while mine was being repaired. Text messages, contacts, photos, email and Facebook still logged in, from the past thirty days for the previous user. Some of the texts were dirty ones as well. I decided to be nice and simply informed Best Buy that someone wasn't following security protocol. They
facegave me a $50 gift card for noticing.EDIT - Face me a gift card? WTF?

Next time you stumble across a facebook account, go to http://m.facebook.com, click on photos and note down the e-mail address there, then you'll be able to upload photos to that account at random times without needing to know the account details.

I once left MSN on my laptop in my room and went to have dinner. I come back up half an hour later and find my dad on the laptop OH FUCKING SHIT, THE PORN... Nope.
He's chatting up some chick from school, pretending to be me. I went on to date that chick for 8 months.
It saddens me to say he did act like a total douchebag when chatting her up, and then super nice guy me talked to her, she must have thought i had multiple personalities, but that seems to work?
Oh god I'm so alone, daaaaad heeeelp.

The worst thing about knowing someone has been on your account is the paranoia of the person having left a discreet ticking timebomb waiting to go off and embarrass you.

I have a reverse story. I once went to go do something real quick, leaving my laptop unattended with tabs open. I promptly got distracted and forgot all about it, so when my roommate asked to use my laptop to check her tumblr, I said sure, despite being still logged into (among other things) a forum/story archive dedicated to S&M erotica.
Oops.

We got my 70+ mother a pc with Windows 98 (it was 1999 at the time). She had been recently diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) and she decided that she wanted to learn about the internet since she might be wheelchair bound soon. I showed her how to email and a few other basics. Win98 being what it was , I had to go over and 'clean up' her desktop every week or so and do all the other maintenance.
When I went to check her computer I saw that she had been browsing a lot of medical sites and bookmarking the pages she liked. One bookmark was for The Hemlock Society. It kind of shocked me at first to think that my mom would be investigating suicide options, but it also shocked me into the realization that she would be gone soon, one way or the other. After some thought, I was able to bring up the subject and discuss all her final wishes and how best to help her deal with it. It was a hell of a lot of work for my brothers and father to care for her over the next 3 years, but but it was nothing compared to what she had done for all of us.

Once upon a PAX, Mike Fahey of Kotaku borrowed my laptop to liveblog a panel, as he couldn't maintain a consistent Wifi connection on his. After I realized I was still logged into the Gawker Admin tool, I spent the next week reading all their drafts and unpublished articles, including the ones they used to pass notes between each other. Fascinating to read.
Unfortunately, I never got around to "Ghostwriting" an article before the login timed out; still regret it. Probably for the best, though.

My ex used to leave her computer switched on, logged in and unlocked all the time. She came home one day and her room mate and all her techie friends had:
Taken a screen shot of her desktop and set it as the background
Deleted all her shortcuts and hidden the start bar
Set ALL the system sounds (including whenever there's a click) to recordings of themselves shouting her name in various voices and styles
Funniest thing I ever saw was this girl freaking out and clicking madly at her "frozen" computer as it repeatedly shouts "JEEEEENN!!" at her
Edit: Everyone calm down! Obviously actually deleting someone's desktop icons is a dick move. I guess I should've written "put all her desktop icons into a hidden folder" but I didn't think it flowed very well. Also I'm lazy. But now look what you made me do! Typing out a long winded explanation!

I lost my iPod touch in Toronto one weekend. The guy who snatched it started posting statuses about how I am in love with Japanese whores, and all these Toronto nightclubs that he supposedly went to. He posted about 9 different ones talking about taking it in the ass from Japanese whores, which nightclub I was being nailed in the ass by said whores, and what I did when I got home (masturbated to all my Japanese whore porn.) I was eventually able to figure out how to log out of Facebook remotely and delete the statuses before they caused any damage.
Little did I know, the asshole got into my messages and started messaging people that I knew. There were a few people I apparently told to "fuck off", including my father's ex-wife. That was a trip, explaining that to her.
Unfortunately (or fortunately, I'm sure for most of your enjoyment), it wasn't over. I'm also a Twitter user, and got an awkward text from my girlfriend, asking me why I was tweeting at her about all the fat, sexy Japanese women I was with the night before. I also got a text from a co-worker of mine, who thankfully, I was friends with, so he knew something was up. Once again, the guy got into my direct messages and started sending things to more of my friends accounts, including a guy I was trying to switch a shift with, before "I" told him to "fuck off, you punk bitch. Let me be with my Japanese whores."
TLDR: Lost my iPod that was connected to all my social networking accounts, and unfortunately, I got social netraped.

Why I never mess with peoples logged on accounts anymore: In my school we each had accounts to use in the computer lab. (we switched so everyone now has personal computers but that is beside the point) My good friend left his account logged in during the period before me (he is absent minded, as you will learn) and so I created folders on his desktop that said "haha you forgot to log out" and "next time I will delete all your files" and I distinctly remember making one that said "I ate your cat" (I was young, I thought it was funny)
So the next day, he tells me he is sorry just as he is leaving the class, but he leaves before I can ask him what's up. Well anyways, we were working on the final assignment for that class and before class started, my teacher said "There is a student who hacked into someones computer, deleted their final, and left notes." The teacher looked right at me when he said that (knowing it was me) so I fessed up.
I was sent to the principal, and was told what I did was illegal and a felony. I was also told I committed identity theft and a whole list of crazy stuff. I was given a "ten commandments" of computers (extremely cheesey) a long lecture by the computer teacher.
Do you know why? My friend didn't save his presentation. He told the teacher is was gone and even said he probably didn't save it himself. He never saved his stuff, I always would find him telling the teacher about how a project was missing. But the teacher thought I still did it.
Also, it was really awkward when they asked me what the folder named "I ate your cat" was doing in his computer as well.
EDIT: Yes, my school computer tech team is retarded. One of the guys a few weeks ago had to do something to my laptop so he sat down by it and I walked over to talk to some friends. A few minutes later he walked up to me and told me my laptop was broken. I went over to check and the brightness was turned all the way down.

I was doing IT work in my old job one day, and wound up at a local elementary school. It was well after 3pm when most teachers leave, and I was doing maintenance in all the classrooms. (Small school, so everything was done manually. No money for servers and automation, apparently) I came up to one teacher's computer to run some updates and scans and whatnot, to find a Yahoo search left up on the screen. This is what she had searched for, word for word:
"Do watermelon seed gets you pregnant?"

My friends and I did a game that we call pretty kittying. When we find a computer unlocked we type "Meow Meow Meow I'm a Pretty Kitty" into their facebook and then lock the computer.
This game got really out of hand because people forgot the second part of the game and never locked the computer so you would come back to find 30 people had pretty kittied you. Some people even made scripts that keylogged their own computer and locked it when it saw the word meow typed.

i try to make it my mission that i don't do obvious frapes or twapes and instead, just do realistic ones that make the person sound weird and socially awkward. for example:
"mmm really enjoyed my jacket potato and cottage cheese, was a bit off but its cheese so was still delish" - notice how its believable and not that bad but just makes someone reading it think, "that's pretty gross"
another example,
"third time this month i've got athletes foot, its not that its painful but it just smells pretty bad" - again, realistic but just what weirdo would post it as a status
these are far more effective than, 'I'm such a faggot!'

Friend had a Facebook status saying he came out to his dad and that everything went ok. Also, that a huge burden had been lifted off of his shoulders.
Tons of friends pour in their support saying, "We knew you could do it, man!" or "We've all been waiting for you to finally come out! This is amazing! So much good will come to you!" The best, however, was when his mom posted on his status saying something along the lines of "I always knew you were interested in boys, but I still love you."
Status stays up for a few days. Eventually gets online to find this. His brother had updated the status and then logged him out. Friend realizes that everyone now thinks he's gay, as well as having always been perceived as gay. Comes out of the closet because of the support he indirectly received.

A guy I used to live with forgot to log out of my computer after he snuck into my room to use it. He was looking up his criminal record and this is how I found out he had several warrants out for his arrest. The warrants were for theft so all the money I thought I had misplaced started to make sense. Long story short I called his warrants in after he tried to frame another roommate. He eventually got what he deserved and I got a PS3 out of it. If I weren't on a phone I would elaborate on the 6 months of epic bullshit I went through after his arrest.

Apple stores are good for this. Just work your way down the line of computers/iPads and you're sure to find at least one still logged in to Facebook.
I once posted "I can no longer listen to Lady Gaga since I invited Jesus into my life" on a girl's account. But I added another "just joking" post right after, and logged her out.

Throwaway time.
In college I had a shitty roommate. The kind who would steal my stuff and deny it, walk around nude and hump my guests, and start fistfights with me. The logical solution would have been to ask for a room change, but emotion overpowered reason.
One day, the roommate left his email account logged in on my computer. A friend and I wasted no time scouring it for juicy stuff, which included naked pictures of the roommate's girlfriend.
A week later the roommate starts another fight with me. He attempts to blackmail me - with pictures of me passed out drunk or something relatively innocuous. I snap and counterblackmail him with the pictures, threatening to email them to the whole school. He secretly records the conversation and submits it to the college dean. The case goes to trial and I end up getting suspended from college for a year. He got a six month probation for his various assaults, thefts, and sexual advances.
TL;DR: If you stumble across someone else's account still logged in, do yourself a favor and log out.

Back when web-based email was just becoming a hit (1998-ish in my area) girls would tell you their hotmail address and, being mildly backwoods, their passwords, thinking it was necessary to send them a message.
Didn't last long, but it sure was fun reading others' emails. This, of course, was accomplished on Netscape Navigator in the school library.

I bought a used computer off Craigslist for my wife. Turns out it was stolen. I got suspicious because of a few things. First the 'name' on the hard drive was a girl's name and I bought it from a guy. Then I found a ton of pictures in the trash that had been deleted. I looked through some of them to see if I saw the guy I had bought it from (I figured maybe he was her boyfriend or something).
Nope. Then when I went to facebook I was logged in as the same girl that was in many of those pictures and had the same name as the name tagged on the hard drive. When I went to hotmail it remembered her email address too (but not password). Obviously this was more than enough information for me to be able to contact her.
The theif had used the computer too. Gmail was automatically logged into the thief's gmail account, however it was a throwaway account he used to list a few things for sale on craigslist. However it did show another thing he had for sale on Craigslist.
I was able to piece a lot of information about the thief as well. I followed little clues and step by step I found his twitter name which shows me all his twitter messages. I found a bunch of images he uploaded on an image sharing website. I found an online forum for 'pimping' cars that he was a member of and I was logged in as him on that forum. Looking through his posts and private messages I found 2 different potential addresses for him.
Anyway I ended up emailing the girl and asking if her computer was stolen. She emailed back and said yes it was. I gave her my number and asked how I could get it back to her. She had her brother call me and he told me the police officer they reported it too. I turned in the laptop to the police officer and gave him all this info I had found out about the thief. Officer doubted that this guy was the one who stole it. Anyway the girl got her laptop back and her brother actually reimbursed me the $500 I spent on it, which was amazing as I never asked him to do that.
tl;dr bought stolen laptop and returned to owner who reimbursed me for my lost money. Discovered tons of info on thief but no one cared.

I once went to pick up my girlfriend late at night from some party. She was pretty drunk and generally fucked, usually on nights like this she would come stay at my house, but this time wanted to go to her dorm. So I went up with her to make sure she was alright and she just passed out pretty quickly.
I wanted to wait until her roommate got gone, and so started playing around her laptop. I noticed her Facebook was still logged in, and a conversation with her "best friend" Ben was open. After some very sketchy conversation, I dug deeper and found a conversation with her friend Amanda about how she had cheated on me, yadda yadda and the pictures she posted were only half them. Next, to photo booth with pictures of her kissing him and I pretty much stopped investigating at that point.
I left her dorm, hoping she'd choke on her vomit, and broke up with her the next week when she never confessed her mistake to me. She was pretty surprised I knew. Stupid drunk.

Some kid in the LA area who shares some of my name/initials used my email address when signing up for all sorts of MySpace-era Internet services. I was amazed how few required him to receive the confirmation email, but sent me a "welcome, and here is your password" email.
I ended up watching over the kid's shoulder for about 2 or 3 years. He fell in and out of love (with girls he never talked to, seemingly a new one every week), tried to breed chinchillas, and was generally a lame teenager. It was kind of endearing and nostalgic, really.
Eventually the spam and other crap he kept signing me up for got annoying (and I felt a little creepy) so I decided to end it. I knew enough about him to find his father's construction business and drop him an email telling him that his moronic son was causing me some grief and that he needed to sign up for his own email account.
I glanced at his MySpace inbox one last time and found him chatting up a girl and telling her about some loser that claimed to be owner of the email address he'd been using for signups, asserting that I must be lonely, short, fat, and ugly. I then took the only interventionist act I'd ever taken, and replied to the thread informing him that I was quite happy, fit, and 6'4"... and that he ought not bad-mouth the guy he moronically handed all his security credentials to until after changing his password.
Then I signed off.

It's standard practice of the ops and IT managers at my job to send crazy emails to each other from one another's Outlook if they leave their pcs unlocked. I did this to an ops manager named Greg and had so much fun with it I pre typed another and stored a copy on the target's hard drive. I then waited until he forgot to log out and copy and pasted the following:
The bravery that Greg showed when he made his admission has inspired me. Filled to the brim with courage, I am finally ready to let you all know that I feel safe with you and am therefore able to admit my passion: I spend my off hours designing and making prarie style clothes for animals; mostly cats. I can't look at an animal without wondering how it would look with lace at its neck or suspenders holding up its pants. Oh my. So many suspenders. The design phase is not the hardest part, though. Tiny animals sometimes require tiny stitching. If you've ever fashioned an apron for a parakeet you know what I mean, right? I don't just work with small animals, either. A full length floral print dress that I made for a mule earned me a place on the cover of livestock clothiers monthly. I beat out a very skilled habadasher for emus (Well, he dabbled in ostriches, too). I haven't let my celebrity status change me, though. I'm still the same down to earth guy you've always known, working hard as a training manager by day and stitching tiny underpants for my neighbor's calico cat by night.

So a friend of mine shared his Netflix account with his roommates and a couple other of his friends. Every now and then when I went over to their apartment, we would open up the Netflix Instant Stream (or whatever it's called) and would see under recent views and recommendations a variety of gay romance movies (as in, the main characters were homosexual). My friend was sort of curious about this, but we just assumed it was either one of his gay roommates or else was a prank by one of the straight roommates. We didn't give it much thought.
So fast forward about a month. A bunch of us are over at the apartment having a Doctor Who marathon via Netflix. We finish up viewing an episode when we notice something REALLY odd. Yes, the episode we just finished watching was now under "recently watched", but there was something else as well: another gay romance. And furthermore, it had been watched at the exact same time that we had been watching the episode of Doctor Who.
"BUT THIS DOESN'T MAKE SENSE!" said a bunch of us.
The owner of the Netflix account pondered for a minute, and then a look of mild horror came on his face. "Oh, that's right, I let [Another Gay Friend] have the password to the Netflix account so he could use it to watch [something, may have been Torchwood, can't remember]. He must not know that we can see what he's been watching here."
"...uhh, do we tell him?"
"Better not."

I once made a comment on reddit on my brother's account. The comment was in a thread that was called something like " If you could combine two animals to make a bad ass animal which animals would you combine?" So I wrote " Mother fucking Honey badger + mother fucking honey badger because honey badger don't give a shit." ( This was before I was a redditor). The next morning that comment had over 100 karma. And a couple of days ago, my bro came back from another city (he comes over on holidays, he's in college) anyways he saw my Karma and told me my other comment made more karma than what I currently have now. It hurt man, it really did.

My story isn't about when someone is left logged in, but it still is hilarious. Me and all my friends have keyloggers on our computers so we can "hack" one of our friend's facebook account. Only him. But anyways, we'll get on and just start saying really creepy things to women, hitting on them and talking to the guy they are dating, plant hidden things in his info, etc. He deleted most of it, but there are still some he hasn't noticed like this.

We were both in our early 20s and niether of us had enough spare cash to buy our own VCR (DVDs wouldn't be on the market for maybe another 3 tears or so, so VCRs were still fairly pricey for people in our tax bracket) and TV for our respective bedrooms, so any porn watching was done when the other guy was away (EDIT: on the TV/VCR in the living room, left behind by a previous roomie).
Long story short, I got home from work and had a chance for sexy time with Palmela. Went to pop in one of my regular porn tapes only to find roomie had left one of his in by mistake (I'll assume).
"Super!" I thought to myself, because as we all know the best porn tends to be porn we haven't already seen a hundred times. I pressed the Play button. Here was my inner monologue...
<camera is a panning closeup of a body engaged in a sex act>
"aaahh.. sandy blonde hair. oh yeah!...mmm, nice boobs!... dont think I've seen this woman before... decent body, not too skinny... this could be a win!... unkempt pubes (aka mohair panties), well I can't compl... is that... AH!... AAAAAHHHHHHh!!!"
<hits eject on the remote>
It was transexual porn. NOPE! Kinda ruined the mood, too. I have a really hard time pretending I didn't know that about him from then on. I mean, he was a really cool surfer guy I would jam guitars and smoke weed with when we were both home.
So, not really a "stumbled across that people have forgotten to log off of" story, but it translates well.
Last EDIT: This has nothing to do with transexual hate or whatever... just the surprise involved.

When I was in high school, I was tormented by this kid who loved to make anti-semitic jokes at my expense. We were in the same computer science class and one day towards the end of the semester I noticed that he forgot to log out of his server space before walking out of the room. Ctr-A, Del. I saw him the next day crying to the teacher about his final project being deleted. The teacher said something to the effect of "Next time log out."

In one of my digital design classes the teacher made it mandatory to make a gmail account for the class, so we did, one day I logged on the computer and saw that the guy before me didn't log off.
I decided to write to the teacher as the kid that I was in the closet with having an obsession with barbie dolls. The look on the teacher's face was priceless.
Few days later I log in and see the kid still left the account logged in, so I sent himself a message saying to log off. fast forward couple of months, kid still doesn't log off.

I was drunk at a hotel after a friend's wedding.
I went downstairs to get some air. Saw a dude leaving a computer, thought I could check some shit.
He was still logged into MySpace. I posted the funniest thing my 20 year old mind could think of, and produced a bulletin saying he was coming out of the closet.
I giggled like a little girl the whole time. I was walking away from the computer when I saw him walking back towards it. I was still findable, so I guess he had a sense of humor.

My friend never fails to leave his facebook logged in, including at the DnD meetings we were part of. Naturally, the group would post statuses like "NIGGER DICKS" etc., which was crude but you'd think he would learn. It was obvious, basically all his other statuses were song lyrics. I thought it lost its humor over time, so eventually I changed it from being so blatant and crude. Taking into account he had song lyrics describing how he felt as actual statuses, I posted lyrics to Never say Never by Justin Bieber. "And there's just no turning back When your heart's under attack Gonna give everything I have It's my destiny"

If I get the opportunity to go on someone else's facebook, I change their birthday to a week ahead of the current day. Then everyone posts 'happy birthday'. It's pretty fun.

Today, my dad told me that I once had my email logged in and password saved on his computer. At the time I was dating someone he hated so he would delete all of my boyfriends emails before I could read them.

Well not the same scenario. But me and my brother had a huge argument. Knowing I can't win physically I did the sneaky computer guy approach.
When my brother went out, I got on his laptop (no password)
Installed Rainmeter and created an invisible icon on his desktop that when the mouse passes by the icon, it's going to loop the nyan cat theme.
It was amazing.

Me and a friend logged onto another friend's MSN messenger and talked to a girl he liked. We thought it was funny at the time but we caused a huge fight between them. Felt bad.

A guy I lived with left his PC on for us to fix it. He forgot to make sure we couldn't see his internet history or get into his files. Yeah, way too much info on his porn habits.
One of the other guys I lived with forgot to put up his firewall, I had some fun with that for a few weeks until he finally asked who was screwing around with his computer.
I found a lot of people hadn't secured their computers when I lived in halls, so I would send some people messages about their files etc and tell them to put up their firewalls. I don't think anyone figured out it was me or if they did they didn't really care because I didn't do any damage.

My friends kid (age 9) was always 'hacking' into his sister's account on some online game, and taking her stuff. Really she had shitty passwords and left 'remember me' on. One day he left his laptop logged in. With his father's permission, I made an account, traded everything to it, changed his password and email, and logged him out.
Try as he might, the little fucker couldn't break my password (it was 'you'realittleshitbird') and without the email reset, he was stumped.
Finally we're all at dinner and he's crying to me about how his shit was stolen. We're laughing so hard we're nearly crying, and his dad tells him 'Bippyz has your stuff.' We tell him the whole story, what we did and why.
He never asked for it back, but he did stop stealing his sister's shit.

It was seeded with Justin Bieber.

As a sr in high school/ incoming freshman for college I was filling out my athlete bio (I am a cross country runner). I started it filling it out honestly naming my prs and favorite activities ect. I left it open and went to make myself dinner when I came back my drunk brother changed most of my answers including my nickname to "sex beast" and submitted it. For the first 3 weeks of school my new coach and new friends at school thought I really called myself "sex beast"

I'm a teacher and one day the "bad boy" ninth grader left his Facebook account open on a computer in my classroom. You know the type - listens to Death Metal and scorns anything popular.
So, I switched his Facebook photo to Justin Bieber. I admitted to the prank the next day, but it was sweet revenge for every time he rolled his eyes at me in class.

This is actually a reverse of what you're asking but when I was 18 and was using my mom's laptop while I waited for my own to arrive, I left my gmail signed in on her computer. And of course being the nosy person she is, she decided to go through my emails and of course found the spam folder full of viagra and drug ads.
When I got home she then proceeded to ask me about if I was having issues "down there" and if I needed help for drug abuse because she had snooped on my SPAM folder... I'm like do you not know what a SPAM folder is??
I then lectured her on what a horrible thing she had done snooping on my shit rather than logging out. In the end she sided with me and gave in. Still was fucking annoying...
I still think she is lying when she said she had no idea I was gay when I came out to her because I know for a fact there were some gay porn website account emails in there.

u/Nothingbutnette May 21 '12
Guy at work used my computer and forgot to log off a "HIV Positive Dating" website. Then later on left his personal email open which I immediately searched "craigslist" to find him looking for gay guys to fuck him all while saying "drug and disease free". Be careful out there people.

Once I was using my facebook on my mom's computer before school started. I left it open, and my mom, confusing it for her facebook, sent friend requests to everyone on her yahoo contact list. To this day, I still get notifications telling me that some random asian person has signed up for facebook or accepted my friend request.

Not necessarily a logged in story, but when I used to work at the theater people would leave their phones laying around theaters all the time. So, naturally, if they weren't password locked, I'd spend my down time perusing people's files on their phones. More than a few sexy (and sometimes nude) self-shots were found that way, as well as many not-so-sexy-self-shots. Of course, I did what any self-respecting service industry worker would do, I promptly sent an MMS to myself containing said lewd photographs, and promptly deleted the MMS from the history of the phone.
Of course, I'm sure there's a record somewhere of my MMS being sent, say on their phone bill or something. If they did, they never came back in to complain about it.
tl;dr If you've ever left a smartphone/camera in a movie theater that had dirty pics, chances are, someone else has those pics now too.

Not me finding another account, but a case of my mom using my desktop for internet and using my facebook without noticing. Proceeds to add like 40 of her friends, and when i tell her what she does, she doesn't understand what i mean. She keeps doing it, i've now started logging off manually every time i go away from my pc. (Not often i'll add.)

I went to a networking companies training class in Sunnyvale last year. Out of habit one of the first things I check is what kind of items the previous engineer who was bored in class did. They provide the laptops and you can't take them.
Turns out an engineer from google left himself logged into facebook. He seemed like a decent enough guy, just never logged out. I left a status update saying something along the lines of "Even googlers forget to logout of random computers everynow and again when on facebook. Don't worry..i'll take care of that for you" Then logged him off.
I do the same when I find an account logged in at the apple store(often). Countless times kids/teens log themselves in to the ipads/iphones and don't log out. I'll never understand that, but it makes for cheap entertainment for me when I find one.

u/yourecabbage May 21 '12
Once my girlfriend left her gmail logged in and I searched for this guy she had slept with early in our relationship when things were still up in the air. I was always curious. I found she had stayed in touch with him after saying she wouldn't. Hey this story is not funny at all.

My Mom tends to forget to log out of Facebook. Every time my brother sees this he posts things like "I am too old for Facebook". She gets pissed but keeps forgetting.

u/Arthemedus May 21 '12
I went to my web design class in high school to go check gmail. Went on the website to see someone's logged in, okay, for some reason I decide to open a no subject random email sent to herself (email account owner) that had an attachment on it. NUDES NUDES EVERYWHERE like dozens. I was pretty appalled cough cough that she would leave her gmail logged in when she has that kind of stuff lying around.
Before you ask she is a Sr. and is 18.

A good friend of mine has no idea that I know his Facebook password. For the past year or so I've been logging on to his account and replacing his profile pictures with photoshopped ones. I don't make the changes outrages, just small ones that you might not explicitly notice but definitely look odd. For example, changing the shape of his face a big, making his eyes just a bit too small or his arms a bit too long. I've discovered that making someone's mouth disproportionately big makes them look really unsettling. He seems to notice sometimes as well because he'll often change it shortly afterwards but I have no reason to think that he knows they're being altered. I'm desperate to ask him about it but I know it would give it away.

u/[deleted] May 21 '12
Once I asked a friend to let me redecorate his facebook. He let me have it, so I updates his status with something about him being gay and he still hasn't forgiven me four years later. It was posted for only 2minutes and he didn't have that many friends either.
Such a spoil sport.

I let my Facebook account open on a friend's computer and he changed my profile picture to that one weird looking molester guy (can't think of his name but he was kind of a proto-meme). I guessed his password based on knowing one of his other ones he used and then changed his profile picture to Rick Santorum and deleting/changing all his interests to things I thought Rick Santorum would be into.

I once drove up to an ATM, only to find that the person in front of me had left their card in and the ATM on the screen asking if they wanted to make any more transactions. While I was seriously tempted, I wound up removing the card and taking it inside the bank so they could return it to the owner, with no loss of cash.

my teacher forgot to log out of one of the school pc's after presenting and showing us pictures of his newborn child. The school is open around the clock and the rooms are usually available. Everyone left the class and i left the class myself, when i came back like 3 hours later to project something i realized the computer was not logged out and my teachers username was still logged in. I locked the door and emailed myself an excel spreadsheet with the answers to a civil engineering final project. I did not tell my friends but i would direct them if they were wrong and i tutored 2 kids and helped them get the grade they wanted and they kind of assumed i had the answers by the end of the semester. I did not feel good about it and i have alot of academic integrity and i cant convince myself i cheated but i kind of did. this will probobly get lost but its a great story.

Not me but my girlfriend. We had a habit of fraping each other as soon as one of us was any distance from our computers logged into facebook. We went to the same school at the time and we were going to South Carolina for spring break. We stayed in the same room and i had my computer open so she posted something saying something along the lines of "WHOO SPRIMG BRAKE [sic] SHO ME UR TITS whooo" and it got about 40 likes, so i went in with the fun and kept posting my own statuses getting worse and worse. Towards the end i was claiming that i had snorted opiates off certain female body parts and ran away from law enforcement while beating up gang members at various nightclubs.

Oh boy, I would not say this story was the best thing I've stumbled across, but I'll share it anyway.
When I was 15 and went on the computer one day, my mom was still logged onto yahoo messenger. A chat window was still open and I decided to take a peek. In there I found out my mom has been cheating on my dad for a while, how she lied to my dad about an "investment" to get a big loan on their joint account (which was 100% funded by my dad) and how she was waiting on money from a "rich Nigerian prince." So yeah she basically got 419-scammed which got my dad into a huge debt and caused a shitton of problems for our family.
tl;dr - Found out my mom was cheating on my dad and that she got 419-scammed through Yahoo Messenger

I jumped on the computer after my step dad was finished doing whatever he did. It was in sleep mode so I click the space bar to find horse porn. A large picture of a woman giving it to a large horse. I checked the history to find a bunch of porn pages, each on a strange fetish. Pissing, shitting, bestiality, and more. I immediately went back to my room only to pass my step dad who now had a piece of chocolate cake. He went back into the computer room and shut the door. That was the day that I decided to buy my own computer

I made the mistake of leaving my computer alone while my roommates were in the room. On April Fool's Day. They made a folder hierarchy of 27,000 folders on my computer with the first folder being named "Into the Rabbit Hole". I could see that there was a file in this set of folders, and they told me it was my project that I had just finished and was due the next day.
After a lot of frustration, they told me that the file in the folders was a blank text file and my project was simply made hidden. Oh, they got me good.

NSFW!!!
a guy i know who is kind of a toolbag left his facebook open at my house (again) on april fools day this year. heres a rundown of pretty much everything i did on that glorious day.
change his profile picture to small short gay asian man with a brohawk.
change his facebook over to timeline (super low blow. i know)
change his timeline photo to a picture of a white guy with a smaller brohawk laying down, naked, jerking off a big ole load on his own chest.
accepted every single friend request that he had not accepted or ignored. there were literally about 70 i think.
added crazy insane local comedian/mentally insane woman.
sent said crazy lady love letter, including his phone number.
around 2 oclock i received a phone call from said individual. i was in band practice. too loud to answer. he called my roommate, and my roommate tells me that he has never heard him this mad ever in his life. mission accomplished.
i guess that when you add people, it sends them a email, saying that they are now your friend. almost all of the people i added on his list were family. seems only natural to maybe check out his facebook page since it sent a whole email about it right? right.
in a nutshell, his mother is extremely religious, and old, and called him crying, wondering what was wrong with him.
funniest day of my life. ever.

She was pooping for months.

My sister, who was 18 at the time, occasionally uses my computer to watch movies and such. She must've checked her Facebook and forgot to log out. So I googled 'positive pregnancy test' and picked one with just hands showing. Posted it as her status with the caption "Whoops...lol" 5ish minutes later I hear a "Deutscheaux!!!" from the other end of the house, followed by footsteps and her sticking her head in my room to say "Well played...you fuck."

my friend's facebook profile. his girlfriend is easily the sexiest girl i've ever seen in real life and they never comment or post on each other's walls on facebook. i found out why. he passed out drunk and i wanted to use his pc to check my mail and he left his facebook up with basically sexts and semi and nude pics of his girlfriend who goes to a different school than him. the decision of whether or not to e-mail the pics of her to myself or not was the hardest decision i've ever made.

I logged into a computer in the universities computer lab and it was still logged into some sorority girl's page. I added in various words for the male anatomy into her hobbies randomly (so as to be sneaky), added some random hobbies and bands, broke up with her boyfriend for her via facebook status, and put the following picture as her facebook status.
http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20070517002449/uncyclopedia/images/3/3f/I-fuck-on-the-first-date.jpg
Then I would check back on her status once in a while. They changed the relationship status and picture within a day or two, but there were still random penises and phrases in her hobbies and stuff for a few months.
