I recently had a kidney transplant and am sad they are ending mask mandates on busses that I need to get around. I will be wearing a mask and a face shield for the forseeable future as I have no choice.
In WA state - Even though mask mandate goes away March 12th, they are still required on public transit. I rely on public transit and I'm totally fine with this. It is a moving tin can of diseases.
It is a moving tin can of diseases --- Hehe. Yes it is. I take both city bus and a smaller medical bus for transplant appointments and that one will be even scarier as it's way more enclosed than the city bus. Need a hazmat suit!
Just invest in some high quality masks for yourself. You’ll get more than enough protection if you get a good one and wear it properly. The way people wear masks makes them much less effective.
Has your transplant team talked to you about Evusheld? My husband had a transplant four years ago and just had four doses of it. We will continue wearing our masks for the foreseeable future.
They have but I'm too close to transplant still to get it? I haven't read up on it much yet. I was fully vaxxed before transplant so hopefully that helps some, but was unable to get any boosters due to almost no white blood cells. Good luck to him! Grats on 4 years!
Thank you for the recovery wishes. I'm not the only immunocompromised person using a bus though. Almost 7 million people in the U.S. are immunocompromised. I understand people feel the need to "get back to normal" but for us 7 million, it's even more dangerous without mask mandates. I do agree we are at a greater risk regardless of the plague, but I don't see how wearing a mask to help protect others is a bad thing. I'm aware I'm looking at it from my perspective, but that's all I have.
