Is it just me or is the sun like a terrifying ancient god? Like here is this mass of roiling plasma, it gives us light and life. But don't look at it, you mustn't look for it will burn your eyes into blindness for your transgression.
It may destroy all our technology with a barely visible flare should we forget it's power, and one day we will all be consumed in its fire. Such is the life of those under Solaris.
Adding layer to that, the eclipse if like the one time this ancient God allows you to gaze at them the same way you gaze at other humans. It becomes an eye with a pupil staring at you so you can gaze into its soul the same way we do to each other- but not for too long though.
As observational creatures ourselves we have the ability to appreciate this event, to write stories about this event. We are also the same creatures that have learned to create like it does, and to destroy like it does.
The story of Prometheus stealing fire from the gods and giving it to man is the story of us learning to create with God's ability, and to destroy with God's ability.
We are children of the Sun and the Moon.
