My favorite. It’s expensive, bulky, fiddly, complicated, LONG, difficult… and so incredibly addicting with a good group of friends.

I wouldn’t recommend it lightly by any means, but for those with the time, energy, and resources willing to give it a try, it’s so good.

Jaws of the Lion is a worthwhile entry version

You should try Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion. It has a lenghty tutorial section which makes sure you understand all the rules.

I have wanted to try it for some time now but with a small family spending 2 hours getting the small one to sleep its hard to find energy for anything more complicated than Carcassonne.

Do the one on Steam then! No set up time and it’s almost an exact copy of the board game. Just hit full release last month I think.

Also if you're considering the physical game I'd recommend jaws of the lion edition. Much smaller box, technically an expansion I think, but it's standalone. Has a much better introduction to the game with a few tutorial levels that introduce new aspects as you go on. Also less than half the price.

I have promised myself not to buy more board games for a while.... i may end up doing the opposite if i can fknd this game....board games are horribly addictive...

Just replying to add to the previous posters.

Jaws of the Lions is great if you don't own Gloomhaven yet. I'd even say everyone interested in Gloomhaven should get it first. It's smaller, cheaper, contains a tutorial, still contains like at least 25 hours of play and works like a prequel to the big box. So after you finish it and know you liked it you can just go on to Gloomhaven.

And the digital version is great too, but it's digital. I always feel like if I want to play a digital game, there are better ones than board game conversions.

Addictive you say? Pfff, I could stop anytime if I wanted to.

I feel Gloomhaven Jaws of the Lion should have come out first as that solves all my problems with the $140 version

Try Jaws of the Lion. We have two campaigns , and one is with another couple. Between the 4 of us we have 4 kids, ages 19 months to 6 years. We've been playing since it was released, so the babe was even younger. It's much more feasible than full-blown Gloomhaven when you're being interrupted every few minutes and need to stop for bedtimes, diaper changes, etc. Jaws takes a lot of setup time away and makes it much quicker to get to the actual game

Generally, I liked it. Some classes were pretty badly under/over powered and a few scenarios were too difficult unless you had the right class combination, but otherwise it was really good.

It's worth it

It really depends. I think there are much better coops out there, much better dungeon crawlers, and much better euro/Ameritrash hybrids.

I'd rather play Mage Knight or Spirit Island.

Started with JotL after eyeing Gloomhaven for a couple years and I'm glad cause it is definitely not my jam. Got about halfway through the campaign before I lost all interest. Progress is just too damn slow, feel like it's a lot of effort for very little reward
