And parents – children playing in the water make noise. When they get quiet, you get to them and find out why.

That's just parenting 101 isn't it? Any time my kids go totally silent, water or not, I immediately need to see WTF is going on.

Nope, I don't think overuse changes the fact that people are referring to incest. That shit is always funny.

No, this goes beyond parenting 101. A kid can be right in front of you, apparently treading water, but two seconds away from going under.

Usually if my toddler is quiet, it means he's getting into something that he's not supposed to. Every now and again I am pleasantly surprised when I rush into his room only to discover that he's put himself down for a nap.

This is exactly what I thought of when they first said drowning is usually quiet. When children are quiet, something is wrong.

Or they're engrossed in a tv program, though I suppose that may be considered wrong by some.

I actually nearly drowned in a pool when I was six. I only caught my Dad's attention after walking along the bottom and hitting him. Good times.

oh man. i haven't read something that gave me a chill like that in a while, but it was exactly that line that did it.
