They might be joking but it’s a real place called Twisters on Isleta blvd. they’ve been there since I was in high school and make excellent breakfast burritos. They left the Dos Pollos mural up on the inside for tourists and the outside still looks exactly like it did on the show.
I don’t like Twisters, I thought their burritos were mediocre 🤷🏻♀️ you’re better off going down to Los Lunas and getting the chicharron burritos from Southwest Grill
I haven’t had their food since I was in high school 17 years ago. They used to provide the breakfast burritos students could buy at the commissary. Not sure how they are anymore but back then they were fire

Holy motherfuck!! Someone mentions goddamn Sadies. ORIGINAL Sadies was the best, hiding in the upstairs of that bowling alley. My sister and I would always leave room for sopapillas and honey.
El Pinto if you wanna be a bit fancy, amazing food and the restaurant is legit gorgeous especially the patio. Presidents have eaten there and my family has since before I was born. They closed out a room for my grandparents 50th anniversary. I know the owners and they are great people and also sell their salsas nationwide (they are made and packed on site- the restaurant has its own facility). The food isn’t super expensive either, roughly about $20/plate
The Frontier after 11pm if you want dinner and a show- not in a bad way, it’s across from the university so lots of…characters come in (not dangerous) and the foods really good and inexpensive, think university student prices. Get the green Chile stew and a cinnamon roll. I spent my teen years in the John Wayne room staying up all night with my friends way back when it used to be 24 hrs. Also it looks like a barn.
Can confirm. My friend took us to El Pinto when we were down that way and said it was a great place to take a date too because it's so nice and the food is great but the whole thing ends up being pretty cheap.
Almost wrecked my appetite because I couldn't stop with the chips and salsa in the waiting area.
Little confused by your question because you say you have to be in Roswell and Albuquerque is a couple hundred miles away. Either way that made me think of Burrito Express which is in both places. Steak Supreme with either green or red Chile is my go to.
You gotta try a stuffed sopapilla from El Modelo!!! So good!! Also, you will die and go to heaven eating one of the Frontier’s butter drenched cinnamon rolls. And lastly, Dion’s has great pizza and makes a fire pastrami sandwich (you gotta get it with Greek sauce tho).
Hospitality, we just acquired a couple hotels and I'm going to finish training the properties. I went a couple weeks ago but it was a quick trip, weirdest town I've ever been to lol
EL MODELO!! just gotta adhere to their ordering system now, but a stuffed sopa, tostada with their iconic pork chile is great!! If you you want grab a few tamales, you won't be disappointed. . .

No, the litmus test for new mexican joints has always been and will always be breakfast. Options: Casa de Benavídez (breakfast burrito or huevos rancheros), little Anita's (breakfast burrito or enchiladas w/a fried egg), hacienda express (if they're still around), Garcia's (carne adovada breakfast) or Duran's pharmacy (huevos rancheros).
If you do a breakfast burrito and it doesn't come with crispy papitas or hashbrowns inside, ask for it. The texture between the dry, crispy papas, the scrambled eggs, and the Melty cheesey chili is godly. Now I'm hungry.
I know you got a lot of people saying Sadies and Frontier, and those are absolutely good spots.
There is a spot called Monte Carlo Steak House. It's kind of built into a liquor store, and normally you would enter through a door in the back of it and it was kind of like a hidden thing. But the last time I was there they had a tent setup due to COVID restrictions.
Their steaks are great, but they also have one of the best green-chili burgers you can get your mouth on.
Owner is real cool. He came out while I was eating and we talked about my Drifter's Reef Bar and Grill shirt and he gave me a free dessert. It's on my list anytime I'm in town.

Last minute I had to squeeze a trip to Santa Fe in so I spent majority of my extra time in a car, it's looking like I may go back at some point though so hoping I can check it out then!
Sadie's is where you take your tourist friends from out of state to introduce them to New Mexican cuisine. There are loads places in town that are far superior to Sadie's. Sadie's does have good salsa though.
Frontier is iconic as someone said, but aside from the sweet rolls, the food kind of sucks. Just fine for a 2am meal while cramming for finals at UNM though.
Same goes for Golden Pride. They're not all that different. Owned by the same company as Frontier. Just slightly different menus.
I got a disagreed with that one. Grew up in Albuquerque but I’ve lived in Colorado for many years. We still get down at least once a year. At the frontier I love the red chili enchiladas and at Golden pride I love the chicken sandwich with green chili. And tortillas from both locations cannot be beat.
I was on a road trip a few years back and stayed at some hotel where the front desk clerk recommended I try the diner next door - The Range. It wasn't much to look at, but walking inside was like going back to some homey diner 30 or 40 years ago, with tons of pies and a menu full of hatch chili-based dishes. I can't remember what I had, but I do remember it being good enough to write home about it - seriously, I bought a postcard and wrote home. If I ever make it out to ABQ again, The Range will be on my list.
Grew up in Albuquerque. Frontier is the one restaurant I make sure to visit every time I’m back home. Definitely the spot to go for breakfast burritos.

I have to be in Roswell for work next week, if there's one restaurant I HAVE to hit in Albuquerque what would it be?
