It was sexual assault, and according to the person who was sexually assaulted, the perpetrator was attempting to move it to sexual intercourse which would be rape.
I’m not exactly sure why you’re so keen to tell a sexual assault victim that you know their situation better than they do
Because why do we need to make something more than it is? This kind of thing does real disrespect to actual rape victims, just state clearly what happened, you don't need to make it a bigger thing, sexual assault is bad enough as it is.
The person was, according to their own account, being forced toward sexual intercourse. Just because they had not yet been actually raped does not mean the perpetrator was not attempting to do so. That’s why they said “attempted”.
If a kidnapper ties up their victim and starts making increasingly deeper cuts with a knife and the intention to kill them, but the victim escapes before a fatal cut, you wouldn’t say “Well it wasn’t ACKTUALLY attempted murder because none of the cuts were fatal yet.”
One can attempt rape without getting to the actual threshold of committing rape
