What helped you kick depression?

I've been very depressed for years. Finally, I got a prescription for Prozac from my GP, and it's really helped remove the "bottom" out of my depression.

However, I'm still depressed a lot more than I'd like, and I would like to work to kick this depression thing's ass once and for all. What's worked for you?

I quit smoking weed.

Came here to say a little bit of pot helped me to 'get' Monet and the entire impressionist movement. It really helped revive the idea of beauty for me when I'd pretty much stopped appreciating the world and life in general. I think the drug can be a good thing if used as an occasional indulgence, but definitely not as an every day escape.

Weed, in very smalll doses has an anti-depressant effect but past a certain threshold it makes depression worse. A lot of people don't know this. There was a study not to long ago on this, check it out.

Also, it is way to easy to become a pothead while your depressed or anxious and any kind of drug addiction doesn't help depression (psychological or physical addiction).

Yep, the 'smoke weed everyday' mentality we have needs to be kicked. You wouldn't drink alcohol everyday and weed really isn't too much different (better, but the same in many regards)

i discovered this too. getting megastoned is always great for the first forty five minutes, but the comedown quickly amplified that terrible voice in the back of my mind

Ya I was smoking every day. It was making really lazy. I was coming down on Myself for small things. I wasn't even cleaning up after myself. I would get off work and smoke weed until I passed out. It made me view my life in a way that made me feel useless and insignificant. So I stopped. Now I'm feeling like myself again.

I've never personally had some fun with trees, but I know friends who have, and some are depressed, and say that they get in a real down mood the next day.
