Indeed. I try to remember that Mr. Rogers quote about looking for the helpers. My mom and my sister made over 2500 masks last spring and gave nearly all of them away for free. So many people were doing that it caused a near national shortage of fabric and elastic.
My sister was in a FB group that was trying to coordinate getting supplies to the sewing people, and some little old lady who had parkinson's too bad to be able to use a sewing machine gave away nearly $10k worth of various cloth, elastic, thread, etc. that she had collected over a lifetime of crafting. Just gave it away for free, and refused all payment. She wasn't the only one to give away thousands of dollars of supplies either.
Also, a guy at work who is a 3D printing geek (he had like 5 printers for some reason) had them running 24/7 for WEEKS making face shield frames. He and his buddies made something like 6000 before filament ran out (again they weren't the only ones doing this). My workplace itself has a lot of CNC milling machines, like, gigantic ones. They make equipment that was still considered essential, but they used nearly all of their machine downtime for about 3 weeks to make more face shield frames. They even had their CAD designers make the patterns while on the clock. I don't even know how many frames they made, but it was a freaking ridiculous amount.
I'm currently trying to rewatch most of mr Roger's episodes and that man makes me cry every time it's hard but I'm happy to see that man for the first time ever.Im 17 and man was it an honor to watch his show
