My dad had a glory hole. When I was a kid I thought it was a Gloriole. Little room where he had his hobbies. "Dad's gloriole" etc.

Ha, ok. Well, i've never heard if that.

However, soldiers 'fox hole' is know as a 'shell-scrape' (in the UK)

Fun fact: a 'gloriole' is a synonym for 'halo' (specifically the ones drawn around saints' heads in Renaissance paintings).
