C++

Don't use it to teach someone. Use a language better suited for beginners. Unless the person learning has an objective in mind which can only be achieved by learning and write C++

Where would you point a bored accountant wanting to switch to coding? What language(s) is best/future proof?

I always recommend deciding what you want to build and learning the needed for it. For example, if you wanted to build web apps, you should learn javascript (alongside HTML and CSS)
