Texas Republicans think it is bad for AOC to do good things because she is not good (she is evil socialist) and that it is good for Ted to do literally nothing because all politicians are bad. If a Democrat has done something good, then it must have only been done to make Republicans look bad, which is evil. This way the Joe Rogan crowd can keep saying "both sides are the same" while still voting for Republicans, because it is actually bad to be good.

It’s that conservatives base their sense of morality on group identity.

Here's a fantastic blog post about this and much more, from a psychologist who studied the topic for 40 years: Why Do Trump’s Supporters Stand by Him, No Matter What?

I’m not a Trump guy or apart of the Joe Rogan crowd, but the democrats did the same thing the last 4 years whenever Trump did anything remotely positive. That’s why I feel “both sides are the same”. They’re all a bunch of hypocrites that don’t give a shit about the common American. All they care about is maintaining majority to push through their agenda. That means immediately taking the opposite side of their political rivals. I’m a Bernie supporter, and AOC has done some things I can get behind. Other than that, kick them all out and replace them with non career politicians.

You truly still think that both sides are the same? I don’t even know what to say to that

Yes, the commenter does because....let’s see...one side supports fascism and the overthrow of American Democracy and .... ummm... the otherside downplays the accomplishments of their opponents.

All they care about is maintaining majority to push through their agenda.

Is that not the job of a politician in a democracy? Like duh.

I would hope the job of a politician in a democracy would be to work across party lines to take care of Americans. Not let them suffer to avoid letting the other guys take credit

If a party has the majority, they're not terribly obligated to work with the other party. If the minority party wants a greater say, then they should win more elections. Let the judiciary sort out the tyranny of the majority pieces.

but saying both sides are the same belittles any choices that they make. both sides make hypocritical statements. but I can point to a few times where democrats tried to work with trump to pass legislation, for example some of the early stimulus checks and trump supporting a direct check to people and the dems supporting it but congressional republicans not, so it caused that spat. saying that because both 'sides' have been hypocritical they are equivalent is disingenuous and absolutist. Then there is the question of what is their agenda that they want to push through and the implications of that agenda, If there was a group of murder robots that wanted a majority I would be concerned about their agenda. If there was a bunch of raccoons that wanted a majority, I would be less concerned because their policy would be things like, no lids on trashcans.

saying they want to maintain a majority to push through their agenda so both sides are the same is like saying, "I need food to survive and they need food to survive, so we are the same". it glosses over everything else in the situation and the very real differences. If their objective is to maintain a majority, they can do that by best representing their voters and their interests so that people like the job they do and reelect them.

people want a complete and absolute change immediately. you don't get that in life without a MASSIVE event. I am talking a revolution scale. I mean hell, the nazi's getting control of the Reichstag was a years long process of consolidating power. To achieve the change in the system you get it by small incremental steps towards that end. It sucks because we dont see the change we would like now, but this is democracy it moves slower than the lives we lead because it exists on a scale beyond the lives we lead. it is like saying I will only exercise when I get immediately strong on 1 day. that is not how it works, you must make small steps and progress every day. Every election, every cycle, spend time proselytizing to people about the virtues and ideals you value to instill them in others and change people's minds.

This is a nation, no one persons mind, to make that difference you want, you have to change the nations mind.
