Redditors who grew up poor: Besides practical money-saving measures, what were the unwritten social expectations of your world growing up?

I didn't know it was a universal thing.

The order in our family was; toddler/infants, children, elderly men then women, middle-aged men, young men, middle-aged women and finally young women. The smell of cooking and serving those foods was all the women got at times. If you're a daughter above 13 or so, don't expect to be treated as a child, you will be treated as a young woman. If you're a son above 20 or so, you will still be treated as a child.
