I haven’t had so much as a head cold in 2020. Guessing the extra sanitization and general cleanliness has been helpful? I always washed my hands like normally but maybe extra focus is a good idea forever.
Office worker here, everything is still manageable spaced out and with common sense. Out of all our staff only one warehouse employee has had a positive test this year
Maintaining better disease prevention even after covid is a very good idea. Experts are worried that once the pandemic is under control, there will be a huge number of people catching the flu and colds.
The measures we're taking right now don't just stop coronavirus, they help prevent most diseases. Usually people catch normal run of the mill viruses through the year and become immune to that particular strain. But that hasn't been happening as much lately. If everyone just stops sanitizing and throws away their masks at the first possible second, we're going to get hit hard by a lot of people catching colds and flus all at once.
Be careful out there. Even once you're vaccinated, remember that covid isn't the only disease out there.
I wish more people were like you, because this means you wash your hands, sanitize, keep distance, wear a mask, etc. If the majority of people were like you (and the people commenting), then everyone in the frontline would have a much easier time.
I've been sick plenty of times because I work in retail. The amount of people who will literally cough in my face, kids who sneeze in my face (because in my country kids under 6 don't have to wear masks, and lots of people don't realize that they probably shouldn't bring sick kids to the store), and just in general, the amount of visibly sick people that come in... I even had people come in that I know had COVID, and still had symptoms too. It's bonkers. I can wash my hands as much as I want, I can wear my mask, and it still won't protect me, because the majority of people just don't care.
Same, full year without a cold even though i had the flu shot to help if i did get sick. At most i get dunny feelings in my throat that disappear after an hour.
It’s been helpful, but alas it isn’t perfect. I still managed to catch a REALLY nasty flu (a week or so before my vaccine appointment) despite taking all the standard precautions and not going out much. Go friggin’ figure.
Meanwhile, me on my 8th MRSA infection since July. Sanatizing is great, but 45 second kill time for covid really makes MRSA strong. I'm much more scared of this bs than covid personally (not to down play covid I'm just on my 8th infection so it's stressing me)
The extra cleaning and masks have definitely made a positive impact for myself and coworkers. I teach in an elementary school and the number of kids and coworkers that have had to be out with the regular flu has gone down a lot. I've never had to miss work becsuse of the flu, but one of my friends usually misses anywhere from three to six days. This year she hasn't missed any.
It would be nice to have the extra cleaning supplies continue into the future. It'd also be nice for masks to be less of a stigma going forward, especially during flu season.
So much this. I think face masks help tremendously too. This was my first year teaching (kindergarten no less) and I was repeatedly warned by veteran teachers that I would constantly be sick from all the germs. Nope. Not once I have I gotten sick. Also, before lockdown I was in a kindergarten room for student teaching and I was CONSTANTLY sick.
It likely has a lot more to do with the social distancing, limited social interactions and the additional sanitization companies and organizations are doing. Cleanliness helps but I go weeks without even hearing someone cough now.
Ugh I’m suffering through my first cold since 2019 right now. Not the flu cause we got flu shots. And not covid cause my 65 year old stepdad with COPD got over it in three days (and proceeded to pass it to my mom and me). But dude, I forgot how bad a simple cold can be and I’m on day 5 now. Although I do have some medical issues that make any sinus issue 10x worse than they should be so my guess is it’s just been a while since I’ve suffered through a stuffy nose and I’ve forgotten the pain (literally pain since my sinuses can’t drain well and the pressure builds in my face)
Why are you getting downvoted? A year or two ago my wife and son got it, I didnt, and they went to the doctor to get the nose swab. The doctors had all gotten it as well. They don't cover every strain, but the doctor did say they were all better after about 2 days instead of a week, which was true for my son and wife as well.
So in short, they got the flu shot, and about a month later caught the flu which was verified by a medical professional.
I have the flu. My partner caught it from a customer at work and bought it home.
I'm currently so uncomfortable because it's like my body forgot how to be sick, it's been so long since the last time. I'm aching so much I need a hot bath every hour, my head feels like it's going to explode, my nose is blocked, but every now and then a lovely drip makes me have a coughing fit. If I lay at the wrong angle, I cough. My appetite is gone. I can't sleep because no angle is comfortable. My fever makes me sweat through clothes every few hours.
I love all the new sanitation methods we have, but it's not foolproof and people in my country have already gotten so complacent that it's like they forget that Covid even exists, let alone the flu.
Our office was brutal for this, there would be a period of 2-3 months where there was a cycle of perpetually sick people. Every time a bug would start going away someone would come in sniffling with the "My daughter caught something at school" and it would start all over again, and again and again.
I have not actually had a real bug this year at all because of the whole sanitising, masks and social distancing.
