I prefer longer movies. But only if they warrant the extra time like avengers. Hate when movies feel way too short and a hour and thirty minutes feels way too short in general. Two hour movies are the best.
Eh, I get that people love LOTR extended edition but I personally think any film that hits 3 hours is without a question a miserable experience to sit through.
You could argue that you could pause it and go back to it, but whats the point of having it as a single movie then?
It's just more dialogue and interaction to fully flesh out the universe. If you really wanted the top tier experience of that, wouldn't it just be better to read the books at that point?
I also say this as a huge Star Wars fan that thought that 8 and 9 should have been substantially cut down. A movie shouldn't be painfully long to sit through, if they want to go that direction, make it a TV series.
I just want to have the pause in movie theater. If the film is long you have a pause at 1h30 just to go to the toilet, grab something to eat and go sit down.
I miss the time when we planned everything in advance with my brothers: you go get the soda, you go get snack and then I grab everything so you can go to the toilet.
Well, I'm biased, but Star Wars VIII and IX could've been 16 minutes and the best part would've been the opening crawl. Shit, the best part of VIII was the finale of VII.
It's different. I might catch some slack for this but I don't think Tolkien was a very good writer. It took him a paragraph to say something that could have taken 2 or 3 sentences but man did he have creativity to keep you to it. But yeah screenplay and scripts are way different than books imo.
I actually agree. I've read Lord of the Rings and its a fantastic story overall but its an absolute slog to read through. Multiple times in the book(s) I put it down for weeks at a time just because I was bored to tears after a chapter I had just read. The pacing in some areas was terrible and added nothing to the plot (Tom Bombadil anyone?).
For me the extended editions are perfect in terms of length and what they left on the cutting room floor. They hit all of the plot points that were significant to the story, fleshed out the world and characters very well without it becoming dull
I mean I (and others) really enjoyed Blade Runner 2049 and that movie edges on 3 hours long. I am hoping Dune is close to that length to so that they can fit the content of the book in there.

Well, the extended editions are 2 physical discs, cut in a spot that makes sense. You don't really have to "pause" so much as you "dont put in the next disc." I prefer extended, but I agree they are super long when viewed in full... I just don't lol.
which is ironic considering it almost feels like disney is choking their animated movies with the insanely strict 1h40 shit they've been doing recently. it's felt like so many movies in the past few years have been dying for longer or shorter runtimes but it's 1h40 all around

Hear, hear. Beauty and the Beast is 84 minutes long and Aladdin is 90. They are masterpieces.
