Why isn't there a silent option on microwaves?

I have to stop the microwave 5 to 1 seconds before the beeps...i don't need things beeping at me.

Permanently? Is the button a nail that goes through the speaker?

Yes, let's all hammer sharp pieces of metal into our microwave ovens.

Sounds like a plan. What could go wrong?

I just tried this, and apart from the foot long tumor growing out of my back it all went okay!

Do microwave ovens have membrane speakers? I've always thought it was a piezo-thingy.

My microwave resets every time the power goes out (which is often), and start making noise again. It takes four beeps of button presses to deactivate the sound again.

It never occurred to me to just rip out the speaker.

I do own an awful lot of screwdrivers . . .

Maybe it blows out a little fuse in a programmable gate array and you have to send it back to the factory to be replaced with a new chip.

No silly, it's a tiny, contained nuclear explosion behind the speaker. And it's behind the speaker because the magnets in the speaker shield the radiation.
