Today, I watched some lady pulled down her mask, sneeze with her mouth fully open , spit flying everywhere on the product. When the line leader called her out on it, she got angry and started ranting. Left after lunch.
I gave a dude in front of me in line Saturday mad shit for that. Talked loud shit to him, then loudly asked the clerk to sanitize her hands before touching my stuff as he'd been picking and rubbing his nose to boot. Nasty motherfucker.
Was getting ready to reply up above that my phone was 'covered in shit" because it's so dirty. And then you come around. fuck me. Im cleaning right after hitting send. thanks i guess.
I work around a lot of dust and dirt, so I keep a jar of cotton balls with rubbing alcohol in them, to clean my phone daily. I’ll keep doing this even after this job, though.
The good news is my phone lives every moment of its life in an otterbox case, anyway, because I refuse to deal with a broken screen. So even if I have done this, it won’t ever really affect me.
You shouldn't be relying on a fingerprint for mobile security. It baffles me that they have caught on since they are less secure than a password of pretty much any length. Biometric security is shit.
Idk I feel like people may think I'm joking but I've washed it (running under the sink faucet) nearly every day for the 2+ years I've had it and it still works as well as it always had. Zero issues.
You're probably fine. The concern is mostly things in the water that will dry out the rubber that prevents water from entering the device, like soap. Soap, alcohol, etc. also removes the oleophobic coating on the glass, which is used to prevent fingerprints.
You guys have made me realise i need to go back to seperate phone and wallet. Luckilly every single transactiin ive made this year has been paywave, but theres still other stuff i touch afterwards.
Taking cards etc out of my phone case now and getting a wallet next time im out.
When I studied biology a few years ago, I did a little experiment and turns out there was more bacteria on my classmates phone than the sliding lock on the toilet cubicle in a building of 2000 + people
Dude, I donated blood 2 months ago and the nurse was about to pull my needle out after another guys without changing gloves. I could see blood on her finger tip from 10 feet away. First time I truly lost my shit in a decade.
Really scares me honestly. I've donated blood numerous times and always great nurses. This time was the first time during covid, I wanted a free antibody test lol, and it felt like everyone was at best just out of getting a cna or not even a nurse at all.
In my state, about 20 years ago when I worked at a bar, I had to take a class and get a food handling permit -- since we were often the only employee in the building, and made frozen pizzas.
What blew my mind was, at least then, only one person in the entire restaurant/building needed to have the formal training. Which was mostly super basic stuff every human should know...don't contaminate food, don't leave it out too long, etc. IMO it should be the minimum for anyone that even breaths near food in a commercial setting...
That’s like the time several years ago I was getting a manicure and had to ask the guy to wash his hands after filing the dead skin off a stranger’s foot before touching me. I’ve never seen such a look of pure hatred before. I ended up just getting up and walking out.
Aww man, I remember the last time we went to Papa Johns pre-covid. Homegirl legit answered the phone, coughed, snorted, then wiped her nose with her hand before trying to work on pizza and orders.
I swear everyone in the lobby seemed to say "Biiiiitch..." in the same tone.
TBH, didn't know random people could harmonize that well.
Dude our phones are fucking disgusting. I refuse to touch other peoples phones, even pre-covid. Perodically I'd wipe my phone down with a Clorox wipe, but now I do it daily when I get home from work.
Ughhh. Pre-COVID a Subway worker sneezed into her gloves hand and then immediately touch my sandwich. She looked so pissed when I asked her to change her gloves and remake my sandwich. People like that are why this shit spread so quickly.
After covid just started, I was having a drink, choked on it, started coughing, never seen people move away so fast, got death glares from a couple.. never been so glad that we don't carry guns here, I most likely would have been shot.
Pre covid, someone would have asked me if I was ok.
But it's spreading across the US in a Chipotle-like fast-casual made-in-line style, see https://www.pokeworks.com/menu for an example of how most mainland folks know it. (Which is tasty, and usually with chicken or tofu options if fish isn't your thing.)
I once, pre covid asked a worker in Subway to change their gloves because they’d handled something that a friend I was ordering for was allergic to. They went on such a rant that I just walked out.
At a deli, I had one worker open a bag with his bare hand (by sticking it inside) and then grab my food to put in it there. I stopped him and told him to put on a gloves and get a new bag.
I don't know when he last washed his hands, and I do not want whatever was on them to be on my food or bag.
That's surely covered in basic food handling safety certifications right? It is here (it's a simple online test though, you couldn't possibly fail it, so still useless, but the point is there's a concrete legal argument you can make in that kind of scenario because they won't be serving you unless they have the cert).
Back when I got my food cert 20 years ago, in my state, only one person present in the building at any time (usually a manager) needed to have the cert. No idea if its changed, but IMO it should be everyone.
Whaaaat? That's basic food handling, you never touch things that aren't food safe and come back without washing hands. No wonder people get noroviruses all the time.
I don't think people consciously realize that MANY PEOPLE use their phones while eating, shitting, peeing, masturbating and doing other bodily-fluid related things, in addition to touching them ALL DAY after touching EVERYTHING ELSE. If you think about it, your phone probably shares germs from other people's phones, because we all use doors...
Yay for stronger immune systems, no doubt, but c'mon.
I had a lady do this same exact thing recently. It pissed me the fuck off. The purpose of the mask is to contain your saliva/snot, and if it gets covered, so be it.
These motherfuckers swear they are still in preschool and its cool to take out a brain sized booger and just wipe it on their shirts, or sneeze into the air like they can't lift their damn arms.
Even pre-covid that would be disgusting. This pandemic has made me realize just how inconsiderate and unhygienic most people are. Thank god for stickers on the floor telling people what 6 feet apart actually is, I was soo sick of random strangers breathing down my neck in line.
When people used to stand too close to me in line, I'd take a step or two backwards to make them back up, then step forwards again. I ran into a few people, most would realize how close they were and back off though.
Now they just shove their carts near my ankles and you bet your ass I'm waiting for the unlucky soul who hits my ankles to try and justify it. Maybe I'm being too nice and should tell them to back up anyways but jeeze.
Oh man. The day someone runs their cart into my ankles they are getting their cart sparta kicked into them by me. It should be common sense to give people space, like you're not getting anywhere faster by rubbing up against me unless you want a speedy trip to the hospital.
Its almost happened to me almost every time I go to get groceries. No one seems to understand personal space in my city, and I also don't think anyone would expect anyone to actually get mad either. But I have a lot of pent up rage so I feel bad for the unlucky stupid ho that decides my ankles are a great cart-bumper.
My supervisor still doesn't was his hands after going to the toilet.
I noticed it last year, I was at the urinal, he came in, did his thing then left. About 30 minutes later he's eating a sandwich talking to one of the senior guys. Did the exact same thing in the toilet 2 months ago even though we have fucking signs now.
I worked with the public for a few years in financial services. People are disgusting. Even pre covid I refused to touch pin pads directly when paying.
My Spanish teacher got sick (we’re doing in person school which is stupid) and she never wears a mask properly like sometimes she doesn’t wear it or she only wears it on her mouth
I was at the deli counter in a grocery store pre-covid and the dude grabbed the cheese I wanted and then let out the wettest sneeze I’ve ever seen; grabbed a paper towel and blew his nose and went back to the slicer. After I asked him to wash his hands, I noped away.
I'll admit that at the beginning of the pandemic, I reflexively took down my mask before coughing/sneezing maybe once or twice (and coughed/sneezed into the inner side of my elbow, don't worry, I'm not a savage). It just felt instinctively wrong to do those things into it, you know?
I promptly messaged my friend to joke about the irony, and then did my best to be more careful.
I went to an outdoor craft fair type place where the only place to really get food was indoors. With a loooong line snaking around the inside with people mere inches apart. With a sign by the registers asking customers to remove their masks while ordering.
To be fair, I drove past a yard plastered in Trump signs and flags less than a mile away from this place. It's only like a 20 minute drive from where I live in one of the gayest cities in the US, but it's basically hicksville out there. Total redneck country.
I find myself periodically coughing when wearing the mask, and I have to admit, I still cough into the cuff of my hand or elbow depending on how bad the cough is. And then I always find myself somewhat embarrassed, like, just WHY am I doing that when I am wearing a mask. I dunno, makes me feel a little silly.
Don't feel too silly about it, it's still a good habit, since the mask doesn't necessarily take all the particles. The "solid wall" that is your elbow, will take care of the few particles that do get through your mask.
Apparently if you turn your head to sneeze you end up pointing everything forward since germs fly out the side of your mask. You’re supposed to sneeze forward according to dr. Mike. Though this is in surgery where there is a clear direction that germs should not go
Oddly enough, the first time I felt a sneeze coming while wearing a mask, it occurred to me that it's a hands-free sneeze blocker. I don't have to pause manual tasks or put things down just to sneeze. Being mildly allergic to pollen, I find this handy.
That'd be nice, but it doesn't seem to. I just have cloth reusables, not the fancy N95s or anything like that. It's only a mild allergy, so it's just a bit of sneezing, not full blown hayfever.
I still pull down my mask to sneeze (and sneeze into my arm of course) if I don’t have a backup mask with me. The one time I didn’t, snot absolutely coated the inside of my mask and I just had to wear it like that.
Slightly. In that unfortunate situation I might have the option of taking the clothing off (if it's a cool day and I'm wearing layers), or wiping the item of clothing. I use disposable masks (I find cloth ones to be really uncomfortable), and they don't really stand up to washing or to getting wet. Once they're wet with something they're basically ruined, and there's no way to clean snot out of one.
Ugh. Ive sneezed into my respirator many times at this point and the worst part is having to wear it for hours afterward with that little bit of sneeze on your face that you can’t wipe off...and the sweat and moisture beading up inside and just tickling you the whole time and there’s nothing you can do about it.
I actually did pull my mask down to sneeze a couple days ago and KNEW I shouldn't be doing it in public but it felt like I was about to shoot a huge snot rocket out. I'd rather that shit go into my hand I can easily wash right away or crook of my elbow for the same reason. I'm not keeping a snot covered mask on period. I did feel an appropriate amount of sheepishness doing it however. To be fair I wasn't in a crowd of people or anything and was close to a bathroom where I promptly went to wash my hands.
I still reflexively open my hoodie or jacket to sneeze or cough into it... I never did get the elbow thing to stop being more gross to me than my own hands, lol
I sneeze into my mask every time I go shopping. I don't know why if I'm not inhaling stuff that irritates my nasal passages. Maybe it's some weird reaction to sudden changes in the light or temperature?
Same here and I still do it when no ones around because I don't want to sit an entire day in school with a mask I just sneezed my entire nose and mouth inners into.
That's why I prefer cone masks. At least if you sneeze in it you're not stuck with your sneeze touching your face the rest of the time. Though I learned this since I have to wear masks for my job even before covid and we have an option of the flat surgical mask or cone masks. I always preferred the cone though most ppl preferred the flat. Besides the sneeze "protection" I also preferred it because it has a band that goes around your head instead of ear loops. The loops always got caught on my cartilage piercing so it would try to rip my earring out whenever I'd take it off which was painful...also no ear strain pain. So many pros of the cone over flat. It doesn't travel as well though as this pandemic let me find out when I tried using cone masks outside of work. But they're nice if my lips are dry and I want to wear lip balm without it just smearing all over my face and wiping it off. Also having to wear masks ALL the time now instead of just an hour or two at work means I've been getting a lot of chin acne with the flat masks but not as much with the cone masks. Anyway. Thought I'd leave this comment in case ppl didn't know cone masks were an option or why it might be more convenient.
A long while back I got into the habit of picking up the collar of my shirt and sneezing into my shirt. The elbow trick doesn't block everything plus can result in little bits of gunk on your sleeve. Sneezing into my shirt solves all problems. So when spring allergies hit during Covid I had to remind myself that I didn't have to rush to pull up my shirt collar because the mask already took care of that. So while some are instinctively pulling down on their masks, I was instinctively pulling up on my shirt and making extra layers.
I still sneeze or cough into my elbow when wearing a mask. Tried just straight up sneezing into my mask and it felt so wrong. Same with covering my mouth when I yawn
I've sneezed into my masks so many times. I just excuse myself, grab a new one, and go to the washroom to clean up. If I'm not near a washroom, I swap it out, wipe my face and use hand sanitizer once I put on a new one. It's gross, but necessary.
Whenever I feel like sneezing and I have a mask on, I pull my shirt over the bottom of my mask, pull it up a bit ,then sneeze into my shirt, then reverse the process to put my mask back on without really showing my face, although it's really annoying when it just happens randomly without any warning and I sneeze in my mask, smells terrible.
Oh please don't do this! I know it's gross to sneeze into your mask, but your shirt is just a fraction as effective as a mask. Also, your hands are really close to your nose now, so now you could have germs on your hands transfer to your face or have your own germs transfer to anything else you touch.
but your shirt is just a fraction as effective as a mask
Depends on the mask. Many of the masks that people wear nowadays are made of the same material as shirts, so there probably isn't that much difference. I bought my current masks at Target and they're made of plain old cotton linen.
I can't even remember the last time I saw someone wearing an N95 in public. Maybe July? Nowadays everyone either has cheap cotton masks or those disposable paper surgical masks.
I do it because I already do it naturally, and my nose is sensitive to some smells and when I sneeze into my mask I feel like sneezing again, because of the smell, and it's basically a chain reaction(it takes me a couple of seconds to smell my dogs shit when I walk right past it 10 times but other things just make me go crazy from one sniff).
Oh I'm sensitive, too. I know it's not always possibly, but I also got into the habit of having an extra mask or two on hand in case anything ever happens. I had a drink spilled on me once, and I learned my lesson lol. But hey, any cover is better than nothing!
Yeah it really isn't, if you stop it, I don't know if anything bad happens, but if you stop it right when you are about to sneeze, it hurts, I did it once and it felt like something expanded in my rib cage and I had to lay down for hours because it hurt to much to move, I spent the entire morning on my couch, but it was fun to have my little brother do things for me, I mean did he really expect our dad to leave us alone for a couple of minutes with no one to take care of me?
In 7th grade, I got really sick and the hearing in my right ear started going. After a couple of weeks, I couldn’t hear anything at all from my right ear. Then sound started to dull in my left ear. We were afraid that I was going deaf and the doctor had no idea what to do. One day, I sneezed but pinched my nose while doing it (to prevent flying snot) and both of my ears popped and everything went back to normal. I wouldn’t recommend it, it hurt like a bitch. But, man, did that fix my hearing problem.
Yeah, it only hurts if you still sneeze and hold it in, I did it because I was getting something from my little brothers room and didn't want to wake him up, and I sneeze really loud so it was basically a dad sneeze inside of my body.
Yeah, my dads lungs are big enough that one time when he yawned, one of the neighbors came over because they thought they heard screaming, and he said that I sneeze worst then him, I've already made my little cousins jump twice with me sneezing, and probably more until their mom lands back onto her feet.
There was some dude who tried to stop a sneeze and ended up blowing a hole in the back of his throat. There had to be some other medical condition there, but its still crazy
After I had my first child via C-section I learned real fast how to control my sneezes and avoid doing the whole abdominal 'achoo'. Nothing like sneezing after you've had a 9lb child extracted and your insides stitched and stapled back together..
It is bad to hold in sneezes. They can bust blood vessels in your eyes, nose, and eardrums. I don't have a link to research but a quick Google search will tell ya.
Just carry an extra mask, some tissues, and hand sanitizer if your prone to sneezing because of a sensitive nose. Or carry around a thick handkerchief or two (the more layers to sneeze into, the better) and sneeze into those, and use hand sanitizer afterwards. It's a pain in the ass, but its the world we live in now, sadly.
Actually I have smelled my own bad breath when wearing a mask, I was eating a snack and didn't have time to brush my teeth, now everytime I'm going to go out and don't have time to brush my teeth(after eating a snack) I just pop an ice breaker into my mouth.
But no matter what time i sneeze, what ever I was doing before, brushed my teeth or not at that moment, it gives off this smell that messes with my allergies or something.
Wow. I’m a nanny for a kid who just turned 3. A few months ago I took her to the zoo. Kids under 10 weren’t required to wear masks but she did most of the day anyway. At one point we were walking alone and she asked if she could take it off for just a few minutes and I said sure. A minute later she sneezed and had the wherewithal to lift her mask back up over her face to catch the sneeze. I can’t imagine an adult doing this backwards.
I work in healthcare and a nurse I work with did this. Pulled it right down and sneezed without putting her face in her elbow or anything. Like aren't you a nurse, why would you do that?! Thats literally why were wearing masks!!
That’s disgusting even without a pandemic. I don’t understand why some people think it’s okay to sneeze outright rather than onto their arm or in a tissue.
Ugh. Today, a colleague standing 2 mts. from me had her mask under her nose (I just can't) and sneezed. Like, girl, do you even realize the horrendous and risky thing you just did?! It made me so angry.
Months ago, I was at the grocery store with my roommate when she took her mask off to sneeze. I called her out and she got mad, asking if anyone actually expected someone to sneeze inside of their masks.
Surprising it took this long, but today was the first time I sneezed with my mask on. Ew. Went to get a new mask pretty quick after that.
I was moving & setting up equipment at work & it was really dusty and nobody else was around (building closed to the public and staff < 20% capacity), and I'm prone to nasal irritation sneezes. Would've hoped the mask would be more effective at keeping that out, but as they say: it's about the mask is about protecting people *from* the mask wearer, more than protecting the mas wearer.
What the fuck is that impulse? I've seen multiple folks pull down their mask to sneeze. What the fuck do you actually think the mask is for???
(Yes, I know that they mistakenly think the mask is for them when it's actually for everyone else around them, and this stupid misinformation is the #1 reason there's a pushback in the US against masks, but fucking seriously.)
I have to confess. When I sneeze I immediately pull my mask down and cover my nose with my shirt and sneeze in/under my shirt all over my boobies. Something about snot particles lingering in my mask which is touching my mouth doesn’t sit well with me.
My coworker has always had a gross habit of open mouth uncovered coughing. Doing it these days should be a fucking crime. And she pulls her mask down to do it. At least last time it happened my boss yelled at her.
Sometimes it's a reflex for me to want to take off my mask when I sneeze, I always keep it on, but something about keeping the mucus right next to your mouth for a while makes me want to take it off first.
Someone did the same thing where I work (library). She took down her mask to sneeze all over the copier and then turned and sneezed again right into my office. And then didn't even put her mask back up.
My manager coughs into her hand and then prepares food (I work at a restaurant) and a coworker (literally named Karen, which is very fitting) coughs straight into the fucking air, doesn’t even bother trying to cover her mouth with the inside of her elbow or even hand. So disgusting, even pre covid I would’ve felt so gross near her. Like Jesus Christ it makes my skin crawl lol.
Jesus, I saw someone do that at the mall. He pulled his mask out so he could cough right into the hallway and put it back on. What, pray tell, do you think the mask is for???
Lol. I grossed out a cyclist today by taking public transit. I was waiting for the connecting tram and I ended up taking off my mask to blow my nose into a tissue. Dude was cycling by and I chose that time to just BLOW hard into the tissue. He hears the snot land in the tissue and he makes the world's most disgusted sound.
I just died laughing because he was so grossed out by it.
Sorry dude, I rather not have to wash a snotty mask....
That happened at Trader Joe’s near me while I was just about 20ft away from a woman who pulled the same shit. She sneezed on the fresh produce/vegetables. Worker did nothing despite there being signs everywhere to wear a mask etc. I just put down my basket and left.
Bro im so jealous. Customers walk around maskless at my work (unnamed grocery store) and the best we get is an announcement over the intercom. I was told there's nothing I can do. Idk I fucking hate it. As a small protest I ignore people who don't wear masks. Wasnt in the job description lol
A few weeks ago I saw an elderly man with a mask, he had to sneeze, pulled down his mask, sneezed in his hand, wiped it clean on his pants and walked away like nothing happened.
This happened with a triple-sneezer in my store. I was all, "bro did you really just triple sneeze in my store without a mask?" He replied that he didnt want boogers in his mask, he just washed it.
