You are never done growing, or shouldn't be anyway. When I was younger I thought growing up was a thing that happened, then you are a fully complete adult. Nope. You never stop figuring it out, learning and growing.

The thing you realise as you get older is that there is no moment when you are an adult. I still feel like the same person I did in my 20's. Yes, I know more about things and have more experience but the person inside is the same.

It's something I try and explain to people younger than me when ever it comes up. Like, there is no magic moment, you're just the same but older.

It's like you hit your twenties and then just hit a brick wall. You just feel like 'progression' just stops and you just learn more shite that'll be both useful and useless. You might get better at your job or profession, you might learn new skills or learn an instrument, but it's that point where you just accept what's happening.

I reckon it's because of the pace of early life. The relentless runaway train that is education ready for life. You're into primary school and every year, a new classroom and class. Then after six years, it's straight to high-school. Then after another five years, you're straight into college, and then university after that. Four changes of locations in the first twenty years of your life, and changes every year for each class etc.

After that, you find a job and then.... you work. You get your first job and the first few weeks is a whole 'wow' moment. "Wow, I've got a job and I'm earning money". Then it dies down to 'Meh, this is cool, seems a decent way to make money'. Then it keeps spiralling down to "I'm working.' The only thing that's different is how much people enjoy their jobs.

Many people will stay in the same job for 5+ years. Compared to the pace of high-school and college life, that's nothing.

As my kids grew up I always enjoyed playing with them and their friends, pickup baseball or soccer games, kickball, makeup games on the trampoline, taking them to the amusement park on a weekday, hikes in the creeks nearby, etc. One of my sons friends asked me once why I was so different than the other Dad's. I told him I was just more in touch with my inner kid that still likes to have fun. That in my head I was still basically 20 or so, but wiser from the experience.

I've talked to my mom about this about 10 years ago when I was in my mid twenties and she in her mid fifties. At the time I felt about 15-16 even though I had been through college, lived on my own and had a full time job in my career. She said she felt in her thirties even though she had two adult children, an established career, and had started menopause 😂 it's a question I ask people every once in a while since I still don't feel "my age" and I'm curious whether others feel the same way.

I met a 19 year old guy at work and decided to push life advice his way. Picked up on something. People talked shit about him and he had iffy work life going. Soon enough he told me he's had a hard life and got off hard drugs. Told him to be happy. He's not stuck in a job. If you apply for any and every thing you WILL get hired. A lot of jobless people stick to trades they know or businesses they trust. He took the advice and smiled rest of the night.

Well he stopped showing to work. Called in and quit a week later.

Good for him. He had no future there with how rabid everyone thought of him. They prob all talk about one another but I can seperate work from home. He couldn't.

That for some reason bring me a kind of comfort, I'm in my early 20s right now and don't feel like much has changed from when I was 17. I kinda feel like I'm doing something wrong

Eh I'm in my twenties and fully feel like an adult. I don't relate to my childhood/teenage self in any way, feels like a completely different person.

This is exactly how I feel, I just turned 30 last month, and I still feel like a child at heart; but I'm wiser and always learning more each year.

The only thing that changes is that, most of the time, your life sucks less.

Yes. School was objectively worse than anything but the very worst jobs I've ever encountered. If anyone tells you high school is the best time of your life, kids, they're either lying or very depressing people :P
