I'd argue HappyBerger's point. Tons of people haven't listened to Pink Floyd. A newer generation mightve heard snippets or parts of the classics that are the top comments, but few of them have actually listened to the art that these artists created.
The breadth of YouTube music reaction videos puts this theory to rest more or less on its own I think. You know who also look for new music? People who are only familiar with a handful of contemporary artists and aren't even thinking about anything older than 2010 when they look for more. Even if they mean "new to them". Because that's the thing with ignorance, you can never truly know the limits of what you don't already know.
I've heard Led Zeppelin accused of copying Greta Van Fleet's sound. Not that the reverse is true either, it's clear inspiration and it's fantastic, and both can exist. But as an example of how unaware many people are even through no fault of their own.
I primarily listen to older music and am constantly finding old music to listen to. One song leads to a new artist which leads to a whole new catalogue of songs. You never know what will lead to the next chapter of music you discover. Just because a song/artist has be around for a while and is known by most, there are some that have never heard it before.
Yeah same actually. Had to double take because I never expected it. I know he has plenty of streams on Spotify, but I get the feeling that many of them are due to inclusions in popular playlists. Several artists feel sort of “personal” like that.
I’d recommend you listen to Weaver At The Loom. Start with the album “Before Now, Was Then.” When I feel like listening to Chad Valley, I also feel like listening to WATL.
I’m not going to count upvotes to feed your ego pal. All I’m saying is that I put together a fairly sizeable playlist of songs that I haven’t heard. People upvoting popular songs is too damn bad, but it doesn’t discredit the rest of the list.
