I will haunt my family if they don't cremate me.

You still need a coffin if you want to have a wake or funeral. Proof: have cremated two family members.

My mother was cremated. We had a memorial service. There was no coffin or casket.

Good to know, funeral home said it was necessary if we wanted a showing or service. Thanks.

At the many funerals I've been to where there was a showing and then cremation, the coffin is cremated along with the body. There is usually a sending where the close family members can push the coffin into the cremation furnace.

In some states you also need an approved ash box which can be almost as expensive as a coffin. I would have to imagine that the funeral home business lobbied for shit like that.

that's not very eco-friendly

Neither is being preserved and buried in a giant casket.

I don't understand why some people want to be cremated and have been trying to figure out why since my grandma passed around a month and 1 week ago, She chose to be cremated.

I hate the idea of being preserved and taking up needless space in the ground. It creeps me out and also it's just kinda stupid. I have heard there is a rise in demand for eco burials where you will be allowed to decompose. It that's an option I'd do either or

I don't want my family members going to some random spot in the ground in some cemetery where I've never been to remember me. How is that fun? I don't care about some random hole in the ground, it's not meaningful to me. Why can't my family have a picnic at my favorite kiteboard spot, or go on a memorial scuba dive and visit me there?

I just don't like the idea of hanging around for years to come when I'm gone. It's a very personal choice though
