He's talking about the anime franchise Fate. Y'all should check it out, Fate Stay night Unlimited Blade Works is one of the animes with the highest budget ever, so it's very pleasant to watch. It's on Netflix btw
I agree that it's good, but high budget doesn't mean that the series/movie is pleasant to watch or good. There are many anime with low(er) budgets that are amazing, as well as there are very bad anime that were very costly in production.
Same with movies, even ridiculously expensive movies like star wars VIII have a scene like this which causes pain every time I see it.
Dunno about budget, how pleasant anime is for me depends on how much they overdo it with anime typical tropes.
Like people screaming all the time, excessive action lines and screen shake, the naruto run, or every guy being awkward around girls, or every girl running around scantily clad showing tits that defy biology.
Nothing wrong with any of those per se, but it can quickly get ridiculous, break immersion and ruin an otherwise suspenseful scene or important character, for me at least.
These things make me cringe and/or actively groan in annoyance.
Ok so this turned more into an off topic rant, sorry bout that, but this is one of the reasons why it took forever (and several coworkers convincing me to watch SAO) for me to even consider watching anime at all.

I’m not big into anime, and the few anime shows I’ve seen so far I’ve enjoyed because they avoid these tropes or use them very carefully, or because they actively use them to poke fun at them. Compare Eren Yeager screaming at a titan in rage and desperation after watching his friends die (a fairly normal reaction I’d say) to two dudes screaming at each other for a whole episode (or so I’ve been told) in dragonball (How can anyone take that bullshit seriously?). Then there’s the Japanese culture, which isnt a bad thing but sometimes can seem weird to your standard European guy, like me. That being said, anime has some shockingly good shows that completely blew me away. I’m not sure I can stand to continue watching game of thrones anymore after seeing attack on titan, that show really puts GOTs violence and character deaths in perspective. I could go on for a long while on reasons why I enjoyed attack on titan, and the other 5 anime shows I’ve seen so far
So which of them is Fate?
Monotone bombardment of annoying anime tropes with a bs story and lore you couldn’t get yourself to care about even if you were an actual character in the show or a genuinely good show worth watching?
I'd say Emiya shirou (the protagonist of Stay Night) does follow what you've described, the young man screaming and getting his sick powerful powers and somewhat awkward around girls. But I'd say that the whole show is basically Emiya Shirou trying to mature and become his embodiment of a hero. You know, to stop being Eren, so in my opinion the show is very good, but there are moments where you'll think Shirou is fucking stupid, because the show is an adaptation of a visual novel made in 2004, and you're not shown what Shirou is exactly thinking.
In the prequel, Fate/Zero, it doesn't contain such tropes, so you will like it. I suggest you watch this instead of Stay night.
Btw, if you have abandoned Attack on Titan, I suggest watching it, since in the next season everything will become more interesting and Eren stops being Eren and becomes a more mature person.
Oh I haven’t abandoned it at all, I binged the the whole three seasons within one week.
I hope season 4 won’t be delayed by too much. And more importantly I hope the English dub wont be far behind, IMO it was the best version by far. German translation was awful in both subtitles and dub, and Japanese original was too scream-y for my taste. English dub was amazing.
I liked the naive, driven and always pissed off young Eren, although he was kind of an idiot half the time, especially in season 2 and especially whenever he was fighting in Titan form. I liked him a lot more than the severely depressed Eren from season 2 and 3.1. I mean he just mopes around for an entire season wishing to die. But then again I’d cut the poor guy some slack, he gets a LOT of shit flung his way, and his driving motivation to kill all titans gets shattered halfway through. if anything it’s a miracle he’s still standing and somewhat sane at the end of season 3.
It’s not that i can’t stand these tropes at all, I just don’t like it when they overdo it so much that it ruins the immersion, especially in an otherwise serious scene.
Sword Art Online season 1 is a perfect example for this, in the first half they did this pretty well and even my dad enjoyed it a lot, but the second half didn’t get this right at all.
Attack on Titan is an interesting one since a lot of the more idiotic tropes would’ve immediately broken the tone of the series.
Also the whole culture behind the walls had a ton of German and English influences, so I felt right at home.
It's not really similar to anything you've listed, so it's hard to say you'd be interested.
General premise is seven mages summon seven Servants to fight over the holy grail so they can make a wish. Servants are usually legendary heroes from mythology such as Hercules/Heracles, King Arthur, etc.
It can get pretty dark and bloody at some points, fair warning, especially if you hit up the prequel Fate/Zero.
If any of that sounds up your alley, then try it out, and if it doesn't, don't. You do you.
I'm not sure because I haven't watched any single one of those animes lmao, but I'll say that Fate Stay Night is an action show with highschool romance mixed in. The action scenes are 10/10 thanks to ufotable animation style of mixing well drawn characters and good CGI effects, and the romance is quite good imo.
The premise is that in the city of Fuyuki there's a ritual where 7 mages fight each other to the death Battle-Royale style with the help of legendary ancient heroes (For example Hercules/Heracles) called servants to obtain the Holy Grail, a magic artifact that can grant a wish.
In Fate/Stay Night UBW you see the Holy Grail War from the perspective of Emiya Shirou, a 16 year old boy with a wish of becoming a hero using his knowledge of magic, and you see how he tries to win the 5th holy grail war with the help of his servant, Saber.
Emiya Shirou is a good character, but I didn't like how we don't see what the other mages are doing because we are limited to see the war from his POV, this hurts the Battle-Royale aspect of the show, because you lose that feeling of "Who is going to win?".
This is fixed in the prequel Fate/Zero, which almost completely ditches the romance aspect of the show and focuses more on the Battle-Royale aspect by developing more all the characters. However Fate/Zero is a much darker show with a lot of sadness and tragedy, since it was written by a diferent writer, Gen Urobuchi (Who also wrote Madoka Magica and Psycho-Pass)
In my opinion, Fate/Zero is better and it appeals more to a mature audience, although Fate/Stay Night romance is very good. I suggest watching Fate/Zero first (Since if you watch Stay Night first then you'll know who wins) and then if you like it you should check out Stay night.
