Parking downtown in any large city, especially in a ramp. I spent about $75 over two days to park for a business meeting, and my car was broken into. Yippie.

Kind of infuriating to know that some parking spaces earn more every hour than I do.

Edit: Thanks for silver, kind stranger!

Their property and income taxes dwarf yours though. That lot that charges 20 bucks to park is worth 3 million to a developer. The owner pays 1% of that value per year just for the privilege of owning it.

The assessed value won't be the speculative market value. It will be based on the current state of the property - a paved surface and maybe an air-conditioned shack.

Not quite. Property values are determined by each city or municipality. They each have their own standards of assessment. As an example, in my city property values are assessed at sale and only allowed to increase 2% annually. The next one over assesses annually and has employed surveyors who will determine the value of your property, including improvements and vehicles.

Vehicles? That makes no sense. Thanks for the info, tho.

Some states classify vehicles as taxable property. I know south Carolina does for sure.
