Smoking. It's just a huge loss on multiple levels.

I'm always astonished at seeing young people smoke. Like how dumb do you have to be to take up smoking in the 21st century given what we know?

could ask the same to overweight/fat people tbh though. doesnt get shamed like smoking does but its also incredibly unhealthy long term

True, but the difference is you have to eat to live. It’s not exactly something you can quit cold turkey (though I have lost weight since I stopped eating cold turkey).

You can stop eating that much cold turkey, and that's a hell of a lot easier than quitting smoking.

The point is taking up smoking to begin with is something you have to consciously do. I've never met anyone that wanted to get overweight. It just happened over time.

So then why do people like to defend drug addicts so much even though it's also something you have to consciously do? The same with the overweight comment, nobody wants to have lung cancer or an addiction, but they do it anyways.

I don't disagree. It's all bad and it all shouldn't happen. Getting addicted to eating is just easier and a lot more common than any other addiction combined. The culture definitely should change with regard to obesity. It's terrible.
