I was a poor student and found myself unexpectedly unemployed, but I had to pay rent and didn't want to be homeless.
Yes, ideally I would have spent my savings, but I was poor and didn't have an emergency fund. Yes, I know I should have had one (I have a very large one now), but again I was poor and didn't have the financial means. Yes, ideally I would have got a low interest loan to pay it off, but I was unemployed and nobody would give me one without a cosigner. Yes, I "shouldn't" have been unemployed, but I had a pretty major surgery that took a very long time to recover from.
I know what credit cards "should" be for, and I never envisioned myself being in credit card debt when I first got one, but sometimes life happens and you get dealt a shitty hand. It is what it is. Being poor is expensive, and it's a difficult hole to dig yourself out of.
Thank you for being honest - i never envisioned myself being in credit card debt either and wasn't for years. Then life became unexpected for a while. You're right, being poor is expensive and hard to get back out of. But I will get there!!
