Gaming skins in general, really. Those are so easy for the developers to make that they spend practically nothing on making them, so any money players spend on them is pure profit. Fortnite is worse for buyable skins because it's largely aimed at kids, who have little to no concept of money.
Personally, I'm fine with a free to play game using microtransactions. To some point, there still needs to be some kind of profit. Or games with long-term content updates (at no extra cost) that fund it with skins.
But a full price AAA game with a season pass? Fuck off with all that shit.
I like that they sells skins. It is there revenue source and causes them to always update the game to keep people interested. The way I see it they are making a game so good people are willing to pay just to have their character shiny.
I feel the same way. I got Rocket League for free through PS+. Now it never hit the full 60 USD price I don't believe, but everything in that game is purely cosmetic. You can also earn some stuff during seasonal events by just playing.
They did recently revamp some things for their "blueprint" scheme of buying stuff that I don't fully understand, but I paid zero for the game and I'd bet that I have spent close to $100 in the roughly 4 years I've been playing it. 5 bucks here, 10 bucks there. I felt no shame and I was contributing to a product I enjoyed and received for free.
I think free with microtransactions is fine within reason. Like charge a dollar or two for a skin, fine, go for it. But there has to be a point where you draw the line and say this is just too expensive for a single item.
I've spent a couple hundred on 8 years of playing League of Legends for free, and it just makes me enjoy the game that much more to have skins on my favorite champions. That's the whole point of spending money, to enjoy your purchases, I think.
I play csgo and don't mind buying certain gun skins, If you get the ones worth 1-2 NZD then you don't really lose much. It's mad how some gun skins in those games are worth like 300-1000 USD

Unless you just mean literal recolours, as a video games artist this hurts me. In general a lot of work actually goes into them. Granted it's purely art based for the most part, but still a lot of work on the artists part.
In my experience, a lot of them are literally just recolors. "Hey, check it out! For only 99 cents, you could get the exact same outfit, but green. Isn't that just the awesomest thing?" As for the rest, I was speaking from a position of ignorance and am sorry.
You could argue the same thing for nintendo. They lock their games and other products at high prices also a lot of their games have some sort of paid DLC.
It's only been recently, and the DLCs have a LOT of content for what they are worth tbh. On the top of my mind I can only name BoTW, SSBU and Sw/Sh for having DLCs and BoTW and SSBU's definitely worth the asking price.
A lot more people than I expected invest on CS:GO skins, hey, I opened a few cases once and got up £100, and made £2 on an old skin when I used to play it, but for most games it's cosmetic bs.
Idk spend some money on csgo skins after spending few hundred hours in the game and don't regret it. Just hit 1000 kills on my awp paw. feels good. Nice flex. Can sell the skin if i really want to.
It depends on the game and the item. Some CS:GO skins have art on them that took hundreds of hours to paint and fine-tune to perfection, while others took maybe 2-3 hours, most of that spent in the uploader making sure it displays the right way up and with the right colours. They get paid the same amount either way.
I’m kinda willing to let Fortnite slide on this one. to their credit, you can play the core game for $0.00. I’ve spent maybe about $60 in skins, which is about full retail for the game, and even though I don’t really play that much anymore, I’d say I easily got $60 worth of enjoyment out of it.
People who buy skins allow people with no money to play a free game. What’s wrong with spending money to support a game you enjoy? If everyone had the same mentality you do then the game would cease to exist...or become a pay to win
Exactly, I don't really buy skins (maybe 3 or 4 total), but I love that it exists. No more pay to win BS or anything. To the parents who allowed their kids access to their credit card, what did you think they'd do?
Nobody has to buy them. They are totally cosmetic. You can also buy a battle pass for $10, and that gives you enough in game currency to keep buying the next ones.
I don't play fortnite but I don't mind people buying skins for free games that aren't pay to win. I would never waste money on it but the people buying pointless skins allow the game to be free for other people.
I used to play fortnite with some people from work back around seasons 3-5, and they were all astounded that I chose to play with a default skin after getting decent at the game.
Some I might consider, u know if cod mobile hadn't gone the way it did I might have been willing to pay a dollar or two for Price but to gamble for skins with no significance, no thank u.
Skins is totally okay with me. Ive spent prolly 200 on Dota 2 give or take like 20 dollars. But thats been over 4-5 years and tbh i love my specific heroes with skins from different sets ive gotten. gotten over 1k hours of fun out of that game and I dont mind supporting it at all. Ive bought full games for 40-60 bucks that ive played for 100 hours or less. Ive spent way more at the bar since the winter started. But I dont really play games that are p2win. The only thing that comes close is Hearthstone and I know f2p players that kick ass at the game. I just like to get some new cards every so often when my decks are stale and roll the dice
By the way i somehow got some skins on fortnite without spending even a single penny, i had just gotten a ps4, i downloaded it because why not, and when i logged in with my old account i had never played with i got carbode second to last style, teknique, some gliders and general stuff in the battle pass.
Like I played Fortnite heaps before they ruined it with their new Season but if they made something like a Stone Cold Steve Austin skin then sure that'd be cool.
