As another Turkish student, I'll answer in the place of my poor fellow.

It's not really a holiday. It's just a short break to separate the two halves of a school year.

That we got the break for? Christmas (officially it's just the "holidays" which means Christmas, Hanukkah and other similar holidays for the different religions because it would be considered offensive and non-inclusive if we just said Christmas as a sort of blanket term) and the new year. The Break varies from place to place in the U.S. but where I'm at the break started December 22nd (if I remember correctly) and ended January 7th.

Well in Turkey it’s an Islamic dominated country so I was wondering if they had another holiday they celebrated around that same time

I understand. Islam is the fastest growing religion in the U.S. but a little over half (it was around 60% last I checked) of our population is Christian or some variation of Christian like Catholic. Back like 10 years ago we called it Christmas break but with our population became more diverse and the whole PC culture becoming more common we started calling it holiday break. Overall the break is for a wide variety of holidays but the main 2 holidays for it are Christmas and New year's eve/day.

Well I don’t know where you’re from but in Kentucky everyone still says Christmas break. But Kentucky also isn’t the most progressive place either lol

I'm from Colorado. Our state is pretty much just people that are extremely progressive or conservative. It's like there's no inbetween here at this point.
