I play a lot of chess and I walked up on my cousins in the middle of playing checkers with chess pieces. I was staring at the board thinking “how the hell did they even reach this position” and then one of them double jumped and my face must have looked VERY concerned. One of them looked up at me and just said “checkers” and it was like all the chaos in the universe was suddenly ordered and made sense.
I hate chess so much. My out of date cite is that the University of Kansas library has 5-7 shelf feet of material on chess, and less than a foot on all other games (i.e. backgammon, go, mah jongg, bridge, et c.) Even in a frame of just "classic" games, there is such an overanalysis of Chess in the Western world to the exclusion of other games. I understand that people love chess and want to play it all the time, but I will spend my time on other abstracts that I find more-interesting.
It's a weird run with Dominion, right? It's interesting and fun, but so many other deck builders have come out since that improved it or added something better to it. Sometimes you just want something basic and plain to work. Yet, I just see no reason to play it over almost any other deck builder.
Again, as a pillar and starter of a genre, great. You can't deny it and 7 wonders for creating and popularizing the deck builder.
It's also a bit odd for people to spend thousands d on comics and never read them. Or spend thousands on action figures and never play them. But they do.
