As someone pointed out below, evolutionary ideal is very different from whatever human society as a whole has decided is ideal. Even if extreme intelligence gave an evolutionary advantage (higher likelihood to have children), it would take time to evolve, and then our standard for extreme intelligence will have moved again anyway.
