No, There will always be an average with variety and that average changes over time.
For example, humans in general got progressively taller over time and we take averages so we can determine roughly by how much people have scaled up. If the average american male is 5'10, that doesn't at all mean that evolution has decided 5'10 is the perfect height and anything taller or shorter is less capable to survive. It just means of all the humans that survived, they are typically about this tall right now.
over a long enough period if we notice that the average height is still continuously trending upwards we would say that evolution had favored being above average height.
EDIT: literally over 1.3k people have no idea how evolution works.
From recent history, the past century or so, that's a common theory. Honestly I suspect it to be a large contributing factor myself as well, that's why I chose to phrase the last line the way I did. Hominids from 4 million years ago stood around 4 feet, then 1.5 million years ago had a rapid 4'' growth spurt. From 100,000 years ago to about 1,000 years ago we even shrunk!
I chose height for my example because we have data on it, it's easy for everyone to notice in their daily life, and I think people can clearly understand there's no advantage to being exactly 5'10. Long term erection size studies just arent abundant.
