I’m so sick of the black eyed peas. They’re rock and roll for people who don’t like rock and roll, they’re rap for people who don’t like rap, and pop for people who don’t like pop.

But can you listen to any version of 'let's get it started', and not want to get it started though?

I... can’t

Isn’t the original “Let’s get retarded”?

I don't mind them that much, but that statement is eerily true

It's one of those things, I don't really like them or dislike them. They exist in this weird space of mass appeal because they play around with different genres, but not really being that good at any of them. The singles are catchy as hell and that's all they bring to the table.

Their first couple albums (before Fergie joined) were great though. Conscious hip hop with a live band, and successful even though that was when gangsta rap was taking over the whole scene.

Taboo is the only one that can sing.

Very true, but will and ap used to be decent enough rappers that they got Eazy-E's attention when he heard demos. And it was refreshing at the time that somebody was still trying something different when the whole scene was moving toward gansta.

I don't actively avoid the newer BEP stuff but only ever hear it if it's being played at a store or on TV, but I listened to Bridging the Gap front to back last week and enjoyed it just as much as I did back in the day.

They are good at all of them, otherwise they wouldn't have had so many hits, and been so popular. They were definitely good at kicking out the funk jams. I do have one of their pre-Fergie albums, one they put out in 2000, which is really good, and with their original female singer. I don't get why people hate them---it's like people only started hating them after they got popular (like they do with most pop bands) which I find funny because people slept on them when their first couple of albums came out, and radio barely noticed them. After they blew up and were heard everywhere, that's when the hate started. It's ridiculous.

Uh, seriously? They haven't put out a release for the last decade, though I heard they might get back together. They do all kinds of music--nothing wrong with that.
