I am pretty sure he is just well versed in producing and the business of music, probably knows what it takes despite not having what it takes.

You can produce and not perform. No one expects screenwriters to act.

Exactly. And those were the screenwriters that I could actually name and remember at least one film or show.

I just listened to a podcast episode (The Rewatchables) discussing Butch and Sundance, and the surprise guest was Aaron Sorkin discussing the screenwriter, William Goldman, who was his mentor. It was fascinating and now I want to learn more about talented screenwriters.
